I am glad to have found another group of Shavers. I have been using safety razors most of my adult life for health reasons but I am fairly new to the collecting scene. I am also trying to learn the straight blade. Look forward to learning and sharing with you guys!
Welcome to TSD @DJS! Glad you jumped in. Plenty of folks around to offer advice, opinions, even actual information. We do have an active straight razor membership that can guide you from your first purchase, into use and maintenance, restoration, etc. If you have any questions feel free to ask right here in this, your own personal thread. I've got a question for you. Do you have a current favorite set up? A best razor & blade, soap, brush, and post shave product?
Right now I am pretty boring, I use a Gillette Fat boy. I have a few more vintage razors that I will post soon as I have pictures
Were do you all go to have your razors restored? Does anyone know if the tabs that hold the blade in can be replaced?
It's a matter of Opinion whether that's boring or exciting. Personally I enjoy shaving with my '59 Fat Boy. Fresh Feather blade and set it on number 9! Needs a slick wet lather, some skin stretching, riding the cap, but I get great beard reduction. Guess that depends what needs to be done to them. There's a guy at B&B called CaptMurphy that you might try at vintagerazorrepair@gmail.com. I've heard of him doing disassembly prior to getting a razor plated to improve the appearance.
Is anyone familiar with an article that helps date Valet Autostrop models? I thought I saw a detailed article on this site before I joined but no I cannot find it.
Hello from Stoke-on-Trent England! New to The Shave Den too!... one day i will be hopefully trying a straight razor!!
