Before I was a teacher, I was a car salesman. Mazda's don't have a good rep and the resale value is low. In it's favor, the Mazda is 3 yrs older with very low mileage @ approx 6000+ miles/yr as compared to the Jeep @ approx. 12,000 + miles/yr. The Mazda's asking price is $300 less. I would go online and check the Kelly Blue Book Value and offer 600 less than the BB value on the car you ultimately decide. Your decision depends on what car fills more of your needs. Logically, I would go with the Mazda because it is cheaper and it has less miles despite it being 3 years older. Realistically, I would pick up the Jeep, but that's me and I am not you.

    Fatboy Friday

    Razor: Gillette Fatboy (E3) (7)
    Blade: Gillette 7O'Clock Yellow (3)
    Brush: Omega S-Brush 10019
    PS: Proraso
SS: Men's Soap Company Bay Rum
    AS: Proraso Sandlewood

Much better shave today. I got more sleep which always seems to help. I do love the Fatboy and yes I have 1 more (my son's, he's 12 and doesn't shave yet) for next week. 3 pass shave to BBS. Only issues were left over from yesterday.

Work seems to be slacking off a little. People rushing to finish projects before their vacation can cause a hell of a rush for their support teams. Now its just the real holiday shopping traffic we have to deal with.

My wife taught me the trick of putting something in a cart and leaving it there. Go to another website and wait on an email. They sent a 15% off email. I went back and looked at the cart and waited. The pop up game and I picked up the 20% off offer.

I got an email saying the razor was shipped. When I went to the website for the tracking number that's when I got the popup.

Figures. I got enough points from the delay of the Enoch razor to get the new Occam's HIRAM razor for $59. I am really considering this one as well.

I was looking at that just now. Hard to pass up for $59.

Jim, I don’t know how qualified I am to answer this, but I’ll give it a shot. The design is comparable to the Eclipse Red Ring or the Rex Ambassador. The release is at the base of the handle, and when unscrewed remains attached to the handle and releases the ‘floating’ top cap. In simpler terms it’s a two piece design. On a 10 point aggressiveness scale, I would put the Barbasol at about 4 (with respect to my whiskers, YMMV , of course) wither Red Ring falling about at the same point on the scale, if not slightly lower. As far as aggressive shavers go, the most aggressive I’ve shaved with is the Karve w/ a G plate and a Feather blade. I’m told that the Fatip Grande and the Ikon Tech are also up there, although I have no experience w/ either. I anchor the top of the scale for me with the Karve. It’s shaveable, but one’s technique needs to be spot on.

I have a Karve F plate and had the Ikon Tech. The Ikon Tech was a beast. Also the blade was not very well supported so the shave wasn’t smooth at all.

You definitely have a few razors I haven't had the pleasure of trying, but I do have a floating head, and while I wouldn't put it on the same level as a Gem MMOC, it is more agressive than any Gillette, IMO. They made two razors that looked about the same, one where the actual blade bevel "floats" above the guard, and one where the bevel makes contact with the guard a bit. The Floating Head has a positive blade exposure that gives it more blade feel, which is why I have always felt it is a mid-agressive razor.

Thanks, Cliff! I find it’s very difficult to talk about the concept of razor aggressiveness in the absence of any discussion of blade exposure and consequent razor efficiency. Being a retired Statistician I of course went to a 10 point scale. Mea Culpa! All I know is that I am really enjoying myself in this hobby.

    Friday NOvember 22

No Repeat (mostly) NOvember. No repeats so far except for scuttle, blades, and alum. Up today, one of my Heljestrand lather catchers with a Heljestrand wedge blade.

    Bowl/Scuttle - GP12
    Soap - Barristers Reserve Cool
    Brush - ThatDarnRob 26mm
Blade - CV Heljestrand Wedge (3)
Razor - CV Heljestrand lather catcher
Post Shave - OSMA Pierre alum, Barristers Reserve Cool A/S

    Shave rating 4.5 of 5

It was a tale of two passes. Didn't shave yesterday so shaving on 2 days growth. First pass WTG felt like I was pulling each whisker out. Thought I would have to stop and switch razors and blades. Finished the first pass and my face still felt like 60 grit sandpaper. I don't know why but decided to keep using razor and blade for 2nd pass. Relathered and did 2nd pass ATG and what a difference. This pass was smooth and everything was cut except my face. Finished the 2 passes DFS+. Maybe the blade could use a touch up on the 20k hone but it really shouldn't after 3 shaves. Anyway, love the scent of this soap and A/S but for some reason, I don't use it much. I thought the alum would be vocal but it was surprisingly silent. As noted, the A/S smells nice.

Happy NOvember and great shaves everyone.
