Lovely B&W shot, Jason!

At the start of the month I thought a shavette would make it into the rotation. The addition of a couple of other razors are going to keep them gathering dust. I can use them but I just don't enjoy using them.

Well, so much for catching up on posts yesterday. Anyway, it was a good menthol shave this morning. I did use a feather in my 109 Adjustable which was a first for me. Ended up with a few weepers but nothing too bad. Just some pink in the lather. No repeat has taught me a few things. December will see much less variation and a focus on irritation free shaves with razors I know.

Yes I purchased Palmolive w/ Menthol just so I could do no repeat soaps and Menthol Monday. The Palmolive works well enough and may be one of my travel creams, when I start traveling again. The 109 Adjustable is another birth year razor I found cheap. To be honest, it's not going to replace my slim in my rotation. I may just use it on my birthday.

Thanksgivings update: The weekend was strangely quiet. No last minute rushed system updates or outages. I hope that's a good sign. Perhaps Thanksgiving will be an enjoyable this year.

I don't just "like" the Shake Sharp, it's been my favorite razor for some time, firmly ensconced in the #1 position with the stacked twin blade hack in the Mk 1.0. if you can get a shim to sit securely in your Mk 2.0 without screwing up alignment (easy because the posts aren't as high as on the Mk 1.0 ) you might or might not benefit from the additional rigididty that brings . As in all things shaving worth a try.

Shake Sharp was unfortunately a razor not made for its time, the good times after WW2 meant people weren't interested in the concept of squeezing the life out of cheap DE blades like they were in the 30s. A brilliant design but 20 years too late.

Hopelessly behind and not going to even attempt to catch up.
Received from @thevez2 a sample of CBL Tonsorial soap. Thank you.
I took a knife and sliced off a small piece the softish soap and smeared it into my CC shave bowl.
The consistency is that of medium soft soap, not quite a "croap", but not a hard soap
by any means.
The Milk Churn knot might have been a bit soft to really dig the soap out of the grooves of the bowl.
It took considerable effort, but in the end, I was successful.
I was not stingy with the water and the soap was able to handle it.
The lather was stable, smooth and medium-shiny.
The DD razor didn't really glide over my skin, but didn't drag either.
(I will test the slickness tomorrow with a DE razor)
Protection was good throughout the three passes.
No skin damage whatsoever.
Scent...mmmmmm. I have the Money. The description says: Linen, cotton, metallic. Well, my nose got a ton of
metallic smell and while it's not offensive, it's not intriguing either.
Zero linen/cotton scent. Hay, grass, sage, and metal.
It reminded me of a now-defunct company's Tobacco Lounge.
There's something simply acrid about it. Not for me.
Lather:
Slickness (SR):
Cushion:
Stability:
Scent:
I would hate to be a soap-manufacturer these days. What a challenge in this over-saturated market.
When I look at a new soap, I ask myself one question, do I need another soap that doesn't blow everything else I own out of the water?
In this case, the answer is easy, no.
If, however, I was a new shaver and didn't already own 50-60+ soaps, would I consider CBL?
I would. Not this scent, but perhaps the Jeri's Tonic.

Thanks for the thoughtful review, Joe. I’ve tried some I was PIF’d, and it was frankly a ‘meh’ for me. At this point in my shave journey, my goto soap is MWF, with my favorite cream being Kapo. Sorry your Cooper didn’t work out! Mine shaved beautifully for me, but to use the acronym that you’re not a fan of, YMMV.

I strongly prefer the DX and CJB to the SS, the hump on the SS drove me crazy. The DX and CJB shave more like a straight razor, the quality difference is obvious but the CJB and DX shave identical for me.

Of course, I was cruising in comfort in a beat up Datsun pickup. The floor had rusted through, so another buddy patched it with door panels he cut off another car. He also painted it for me. He offered to add flames (true story), but sadly I declined.

My best memory in the old Datsun was learning that the back wheels had no traction during hard turns when the truck bed was empty. I did a very impressive "Starsky and Hutch" turn in the middle of town once. My passenger left 10 finger prints in the dashboard as proof.

My first wreck was in early December 1979. I literally drove a Chevette through a Vega. As in - I hit the Vega right on the driver side centered on the door hinge and pretty much split the car in half. My Chevette had over $2000 damage but was repairable. The Vega, not so much. I determined right then and there never to even consider owning a Vega. Oh, the accident was the other driver's fault, for the record. She was trying to make a left turn across two lanes of traffic into two more lanes. And seemed shocked when the cop gave her a ticket.

Testing, testing.......ok seems like everything is working again. This is my shave from Sunday evening. Time to go back to a Russian razor, but more typical than the adjustables. In other words - not a great razor. Unique, though, in its design and the way it creates a wonky edge on any blade you put in it. Doesn't quite align right, gives one side a bit of a wavy edge, you know, fun stuff like that. This is the infamous "Soyuz 1", which is my name for it in honor of the flaming disaster that was the real Soyuz 1. And, if I'm going to use a questionable Russian razor, then I don't want a great blade either, do I. The Crown Super Stainless should do nicely.

Crown blades are part of the Lord blade family now made in Egypt. I would put them in a second tier under the Lord branded blades and I'm not really a fan of any of them. Crowns tend to be a bit rough although usable if you have good technique. Well, I have good technique but I have a razor that presents a bit of an extra challenge, and the shave proved that out. I should say that the lather from the Jeeves and JR54 was perfect so no blame there. The shave itself wasn't a bloody mess, just a draggy and harsh affair. With the way this razor holds the blade you get lots of blade feel and with one corner sticking out a bit on one side and the wavy blade on the other it's definitely a balancing act to keep it under control. I didn't even need the alum to know that I was plenty irritated, but the alum did its job and burned the knowledge into my head. The finish wasn't perfect but it was more than adequate, so there's that. DFS and some Nivea balm cooled everything off. All in all, hey I've had worse. Much, much worse.

I now understand why @jmudrick likes this razor. It’s a deceptive-looking razor. It looks like a 1912 Gem, but uses DE blades. When I first examined the blade exposure, I was prepared for an aggressive, technical shave. However, the shave was highly efficient and surprisingly smooth. The razor sang as it cut. When I checked after the first pass, my whiskers were mowed down to the DFS level. I could have quit at that point, but decided to go w/ an ATG for my second pass. The result was a two pass BBS w/ no irritation picked up by the alum block. This razor is going into the regular rotation along with the Cooper. Two consecutive days of an effortless BBS.

Smooth, smelling nice....ready for a Monday.

Well, so much for catching up on posts yesterday. Anyway, it was a good menthol shave this morning. I did use a feather in my 109 Adjustable which was a first for me. Ended up with a few weepers but nothing too bad. Just some pink in the lather. No repeat has taught me a few things. December will see much less variation and a focus on irritation free shaves with razors I know.

Yes I purchased Palmolive w/ Menthol just so I could do no repeat soaps and Menthol Monday. The Palmolive works well enough and may be one of my travel creams, when I start traveling again. The 109 Adjustable is another birth year razor I found cheap. To be honest, it's not going to replace my slim in my rotation. I may just use it on my birthday.

Thanksgivings update: The weekend was strangely quiet. No last minute rushed system updates or outages. I hope that's a good sign. Perhaps Thanksgiving will be an enjoyable this year.

Received from @thevez2 a sample of CBL Tonsorial soap. Thank you.
I took a knife and sliced off a small piece the softish soap and smeared it into my CC shave bowl.
The consistency is that of medium soft soap, not quite a "croap", but not a hard soap
by any means.
The Milk Churn knot might have been a bit soft to really dig the soap out of the grooves of the bowl.
It took considerable effort, but in the end, I was successful.
I was not stingy with the water and the soap was able to handle it.
The lather was stable, smooth and medium-shiny.
The DD razor didn't really glide over my skin, but didn't drag either.
(I will test the slickness tomorrow with a DE razor)
Protection was good throughout the three passes.
No skin damage whatsoever.
Scent...mmmmmm. I have the Money. The description says: Linen, cotton, metallic. Well, my nose got a ton of
metallic smell and while it's not offensive, it's not intriguing either.
Zero linen/cotton scent. Hay, grass, sage, and metal.
It reminded me of a now-defunct company's Tobacco Lounge.
There's something simply acrid about it. Not for me.
Lather:
Slickness (SR):
Cushion:
Stability:
Scent:
I would hate to be a soap-manufacturer these days. What a challenge in this over-saturated market.
When I look at a new soap, I ask myself one question, do I need another soap that doesn't blow everything else I own out of the water?
In this case, the answer is easy, no.
If, however, I was a new shaver and didn't already own 50-60+ soaps, would I consider CBL?
I would. Not this scent, but perhaps the Jeri's Tonic.

Jason's @jtspartan handle with the TGN knot is quickly becoming my favorite badger brush. Whipped up a great lather this morning, super slick & hydrated. The neon green 7/8 Damascus steel went 2.5 passes, easily getting a DFS+. No issues or weepers to report. Followed with PAA's Malbolge aftershave & cologne. Smooth, smelling nice....ready for a Monday.

I decided to go with my Slim Twist again, using the same blade as yesterday. Very comfortable shave, one weeper but that didn't bother me much.
