November 2019 30 Day Rule/Focus Pix & Discussion

Good Wednesday morning all.
Finally got my home internet to recognize the new IP of the server used here.
Hope all is well with everyone!
Might get some down time this week, if all goes well.. WooHoo!
Anyway, still trying our blades with my Monobilt blade holder.
FYI to new user's of one of these little guys. I have no issues with any blades fitting correctly. I wonder if installing the blade is the problem with most.
I'll admit it took some time for me to get a process that works. It's really easy, just hold the Monobilt so your thumb can press up on the hinge (gently now). While still holding it that way let the cap flip open, incert the blade hold it and while pressing gently on the hinge with your thumb. This should allow the cap to flip closed. Now take your other thumb and forefinger and hold the opposite side together while tightening the bottom thumb screw. Snug is all you need, NEVER over tighten theses!
That's how I do it.
To remove the blade just loosen the thumb screw.
I never let a blade sit in a razor, I always use a new blade, I've gotten good at this.
You can too.

On to better things....

Todays shave, Blozano gets an 8. Just usable but not comfortable at all. Did get where I like to be, but had to work more than usual to get there.

Tuesday shave 8.5, useable and not to bad on comfort, hard to get clean on the last pass of the gord. Worked hard to get where I like to be.

Mondays shave 9.5 starts out slightly resistive, gets smoother as I go. Clean and smooth finish top to bottom. Nice, easy.

Reposted Sunday shave, just because it was very nice! Yea, I'm spoiled!

Now that I got that out of the way.

Couple busy days...hadn't had a chance to post daily shaves. Still using 'Frigga', the Drew Dick Damascus for my one razor rule in November, 20 shaves in with her today. Went through my 14k/50k/100k/200k pasted strop progression Monday evening, and the edge is back to super sharp and shaving smooth (always a short linen/leather time each day). The HC Klenzo with the HMW gel tip seems to be getting better at releasing lather, or at least I'm overloading it so much it appears that way. Whipped up a really nice and slick lather with Barrister's Reserve Lavender SS. This was a gift from my TSD Secret Santa, and I'm loving the luscious lavender aroma! Definitely a must buy getting the matching AS. Performance wise, this soap is extremely slick and thick. Takes a little time and heavy duty whipping to make some volume, but it's worth it. Painted on goodness today. 2.5 passes for DFS+ result. Followed with PAA's ASB called Mysterium Serum (just a small dose...it's dense!), then a hefty application of Chatillon Lux's Champs De Lavande AS. Smooth and smelling fine for a Wednesday!

125g costs $14.99 which I find quite reasonable.
Unfortunately, the aftershave is currently out of stock.
My biggest complaint about this soap is the small container. I abhor these and would prefer to purchase
the soap sans container and use one of my own. Small complaint, but it should be noted.
The Duke whipped up some excellent suds and I sufficiently hydrated the lather to create a
sloppy, yet fully stable cream.
Inserted into my Feather was the thrice-used Polsilver blade, which still has a keen edge.
Buffing abounded with the slick lather and the Japanese razor.
No irritation and a very smooth skin were the results.
Healthy splash of the matching aftershave and SWMBO, while not exactly awarding her
SOA, did comment that I smell "interesting".

I have the Traveling Box so this shave came from the box... well mostly. There was a GEM 1912 in the box, but I shaved with mine. I have all the razors I have used this month in a row ok my shelf. I wanted to use mine or one I am keeping.

It was a close shave. I like the SE. Variety!

Wednesday: I do enjoy this Koraat 14 2.0 blade, it is double bellied hollow so it does not flex at all yet delivers the benefits of a full hollow. It is noisy but it sings an octave lower than a traditional full hollow. The WCS is an exceptional soap, I always get great later from it and Fougere scent is wonderful.

And then there was rain. Lots of rain. OMG so much rain. Well, in parts of the area anyway. Naturally the worst was right over me for awhile. I came home soaked and ready for a shave. I was debating which razor to grab that I hadn't used yet this month and remembered the OCMM. Great shaving tool even though it can be a bit nippy. I loaded a fresh CVS carbon blade and grabbed the D.R. Harris shave stick that I don't use much. No reason other than I just forget it's there. It always produces a great lather. Slick and cushy. I chose the JR230 and almost switched. It's a small brush and since I'm face lathering from a stick I wondered how it might do. Decided to stick with it and I wasn't disappointed. More than enough lather for three passes of smooth but noisy carbon comfort. Near-BBS for a result and that's a winner!

One more day before we sacrifice the annual turkeys. Hope you have fun plans and have already committed not to overeat. I'll never believe you committed to that, but neither did I. We are going to the Official Cartel Meet-Up breakfast spot - Golden Corral, for their Thanksgiving buffet on Thursday. All you can eat, including desserts, and you don't have to do dishes. My kind of place. Have a great Wednesday!

It has been a while since I used the OCMM, normally preferring the ClogPruf. Same great shave, just a slightly different face feel. I am making progress on the 30 day rule of no changes. A streamline delivery derailed my razor rule, but more importantly I am staying strong with the soap. I have been really lazy and only using creams while still having a stockpile of soaps to use. This is definitely helping get through it.

While still holding it that way let the cap flip open, incert the blade hold it and while pressing gently on the hinge with your thumb. This should allow the cap to flip closed. Now take your other thumb and forefinger and hold the opposite side together while tightening the bottom thumb screw. Snug is all you need, NEVER over tighten theses!
That's how I do it.
To remove the blade just loosen the thumb screw.
I never let a blade sit in a razor, I always use a new blade, I've gotten good at this.

Todays shave, Blozano gets an 8. Just usable but not comfortable at all. Did get where I like to be, but had to work more than usual to get there.

Tuesday shave 8.5, useable and not to bad on comfort, hard to get clean on the last pass of the gord. Worked hard to get where I like to be.

So, I got a new iPhone X and the camera is head-over-heels better than my old 5S,
however, I am going to have to pay more attention to the dog hairs on my gear.
A lot of us wet-shavers are big "tobacco" fans, myself included.
Indeed, I have owned quite a few tobacco-scented soaps and aftershaves and just a few
remain in my den. An oft overlooked exemplar is Asylum Shave Works Old Virginia.
Manufactured by WSP. this is their proprietary soap line for another Forum owner.
Being only available there, is probably the reason we don't hear of it as much as some others.
That's a shame, because next to Eufros Tobacco, this is my #1 tobacco soap.
The scent profile is a blend of Tobacco Absolute, Vanilla and Tonka Bean, Oakmoss and Cedar.
125g costs $14.99 which I find quite reasonable.
Unfortunately, the aftershave is currently out of stock.
My biggest complaint about this soap is the small container. I abhor these and would prefer to purchase
the soap sans container and use one of my own. Small complaint, but it should be noted.
The Duke whipped up some excellent suds and I sufficiently hydrated the lather to create a
sloppy, yet fully stable cream.
Inserted into my Feather was the thrice-used Polsilver blade, which still has a keen edge.
Buffing abounded with the slick lather and the Japanese razor.
No irritation and a very smooth skin were the results.
Healthy splash of the matching aftershave and SWMBO, while not exactly awarding her
SOA, did comment that I smell "interesting".
