Le Grelot 14, cream was SMN lathered with a Simpsons 58, and SMN balm finished up a great shave to start the week.

Watching you throw up those modern custom beauties has worn off a little on me

 

A fist full of Dollars! Testing edges from 2 different stones, the better of the last two new acquisitions (razor 208-4) against a known top grade stone (the Gold Monkey). Not so much different, but the Monkey/top grade stone was slightly smoother. Now I need to see if ai can coax more from the new acquisition!

Soap was MdC rose lathered with a Rooney Beehive and a splash of Thayers rose petal finished up. BDBS even with the in-shave smoothness from the 208 a little less than I want.

For the Gold Dollar fans, the Gold Monkey is the top of the line if ‘top of the line’ even makes sense WRT Gold Dollar! It’s thinner, more hollow, better finished, and some, but not all, have a stabilizer. Unfortunately the QC seems about the same, so you’re just as likely to get a dud as with a 66.

 

This razor and two others have been sidelined for awhile as the edges needed some work to sharpen. I’m not the handiest guy around so it’s easy to put tasks like that off. Anyhow, it’s back in action now along with the others (coming up in future shaves.) The end result was a very close and smooth shave. But the quarter hollow grind is going to take some getting used to.

This one will eventually be sold, but I will enjoy it until then. It is a bit small for my liking, but very sharp and effective. Along with the Stirling soap, it is a great shave. My wife felt my neck and said "smooth!"

Very nice Tom, and that butterscotch Keyhole isn’t too shabby either!

 

13/16 Cape 2000 Swedish Steel, soap was 3P lathered with a Simpsons 59, and a dab of ABC almond balm finished off a lovely shave.

 

ORYX 931, Germany by way of Mpls, Minn. Bone scales, I believe.


Still on the seller’s edge with just a little diamond/balsa stropping, so it was actually shave-ready.

Shave #48 on the Sub Cero edge longevity test. Tom inspired me to get my Keyhole 4 out and lather up a bowl of Santa Maria Novella. A dab of SMN body creme made for a fine AS balm. The edge is holding up very well, I need to get back on it, but when new razors arrive, they tend to get my attention for a while!

 

Now that is a beautiful Simpson!
