Your last statement makes me laugh. 10 months ago I was telling everyone how much cheaper DE shaving is in the long run. However that is only theoretical. There are a few guys I've run across on the boards who've kept it cheap but most of us have gone way overboard.

Your clogging issues reaffirms to me the possibility of trying the Trac II. I can't remember who it was, but somebody said they really liked using it.

I should have said it's a mistake for me. If it works for you who am I to say otherwise. My issue w/ it was #1) It's too humid and too much spray to keep the lather/water ratio correct. #2) Everything is too slippery. #3) There's not near enough ledge space to store all the stuff I use (bowls, brush, razor, etc). #4) The corrosion issues I mentioned.

I did it for years w/ acceptable results, but that was using the aforementioned incorrect techniques. I thought I'd really hate going back to sink shaving, but now that I'm a year into it it's not a big deal. I keep my face hydrated w/ the sink water and that works fine.

I went back and forth between a DE and a personna brand multi-blade (3 or so) when I resumed shaving around 2 years ago. I found I could get good results from the multi blade with my improved technique. However, I've always gone through the cartridges quickly. Two shaves at best from a cartridge. I just don't like the gunk buildup; I get thick facial hair and it really clogs the blades on those things.

I've read comments about the trac II that suggest it's an acceptable alternative to DE. I could see that, but I'm still not switching. DE shaving has been economical for me. I like Williams soaps and Personna blades. TSD shave cream lasts forever and I use dollar general a/s.

I've spent some money experimenting with razors and blades, but I never shelled out a ton on any one purchase. The cartridges would have definitely cost me more than I've currently spent. I'm looking to settle down with two DE razors now (and two GEM)- a slim adjustible, an old type, a featherweight SE and a micromatic- and p.i.f. the rest.

Hi Mike. You're one of the lucky few I mentioned then. Good for you keeping it cheap. I'm keeping it cheap now because the AD's have subsided, but that's only after dropping around $500 bucks easily I'd say. Maybe more. I'm afraid to think on it too much. :(

I figure I'd have spent the AD $$ on canned goo, cartriges, cigs, or something else stupid anyway, so I bought some nice stuff to shave with. What the hay.

    Hi Everybody!

Hey Shep, I used the fusion blades with my shower shaving for many years. Never had a problem with it. Went DE for the economical and recyclable reasons. I also used Clinique shave gel for years so the making lather in a mug with a brush was new for me. DE is still cheaper if you dont let the ADs get to you. I cannot say that though.

The cig nicotine monkey is still hanging around, but I refuse to give in.

This flu thing is miserable, but I'll live. Much to the dismay of a few individuals :happy102
