My prep was just a cold water rinse. The Cella Crema Da Barba face lathered well with Jayaruh #199 Brush. I did two passes and a cleanup with the Damaskeene Open Faced razor with a freshly sharpened Vintage Damaskeene SE blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Cella Balsamo Dopobarba. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

 

Friday's Shave

I'm really glad to be using my GEM razors again. I had run out of my PTFE blades a while back and had been using various other blades I had on hand including a 100 pack of PAL Blue Carbon blades. Those PAL blades unfortunately just don't always agree with my face. In some razors however, such as the AutoStrop B2, I think they may work as well as the PTFE blade. Without the comfort of a blade that worked for me, I stopped using the GEM razors.

Anyway, earlier this week I received a 100 pack of GEM PTFE blades from Connaught Shaving so I'm set for a good while once again!

SOTD, Fri DEC 27-19

Razor : Valet auto-strop C1, Canadian Variant, gap modified to .007 from .011 of a inch to smooth the shave out - MFG 1920's-30's
Blade : Gem SS PTFE modified (1)
Soap : TOBS Sandal wood, great scent
Brush : Yaqi tuxedo knot 24mm+
Preshave : Brush wash the face with CeraVe hand bar soap + a dollop of Aloe Vera gel.
Post shave : Alum + cold water rinse.
Post shave : Proraso red sandal Wood with witch Hazel + Nivea balm
Results : CCS,DFS,BBS + no irritation + 1 blemish weeper =

I had a fantastic shave today. Started things off with the Ever-ready 1914 aka little lather catcher. Then did a little cleanup and the back of the neck with 1900 Star lather catcher. The razors shared a 4th use Gem SS. Mer Shavings mysore sandalwood on my new brush with a 28mm SHD Maggard knot for lather. WOW first impressions of this knot are very good. And of course I love Mer Shaving soaps.

 

Is this a Damaskeene with a missing top cap or a razor that was designed without. I have seen a vintage Gem prototype that was designed without the top cap in a collection. The gentleman had over 960 razors and I spent over 5 hours trying not to drool. He opened display cases and let me pick up and inspect any razor I wanted to see closer. It was amazing.

I got a Damaskeene razor and a Damaskeene OC base plate in a lot of shaving stuff. I used the cap and handle of the Damaskeene with the OC base plate to make an OC Damaskeene.



That left me with the old closed comb base plate. I decided to see if I had a handle that would fit it. The threads are not standard. It will only take my ER 1914 handle. So, it has the same threads of the old lather catchers. That is when I decided to break out the wooden Darwin type handle I made a while back. It worked perfectly. So, I am calling this my Frankenskeene razor. It does not have a cap, but that is OK, since the spring holds the blade tight against the stops. I'm thinking this is going to be a great razor.

First time using this Ever Ready Pat’d 1912 in my head an one of the best BBS I ever had. Glad to have tried.

Brush : Razorock Noir 400
Preshave : Brush wash my face with CeraVe hand bar soap + a dollop of clear Aloe Vera gel on beard area.
Post shave : Razorock King Louis Lavender with witch hazel + Nivea balm
Results : CCS,DFS,BBS + no irritation + no weepers(skin feels dry because of winter)=

Sunday shave Dec 29th-19, Looks like Mrs Santa gifted me with some good new Avon products for Christmas. If you like tobacco Vanilla scent with some other ingredients- the brown bottle(True Gent) is a cologne with lasting power and reminds me of barber shop scents in the old days as a youth getting a hair cut.

Razor : Schick adjustable injector model 3 - MFG 1970-72- one of the best Schick razors made .
Blade : Personna injector SS PTFE (6)
Soap : Razorock Santa Marie del Flore "Firenze"-Excellent soap scent & properties IMO.
Brush : Yaqi tuxedo knot 24mm with black marble handle- very nice brush.
Preshave: Brush wash my face with CeraVe hand bar soap + a dollop of clear Aloe Vera gel on beard area.
Post shave : Alum + cold water rinse.
Post shave : Avon "True Gent" cologne with witch hazel + Avon "True Gent" balm. -Nice present this Christmas.
Results: CCS,DFS,BBS + Alum indicated no irritation + no weepers =
