I'm seeing "Top 9 Of 2019" posts all over Instagram the last couple of days and I thought it would be fun to start a similar thread here. So, let's see 'em! Show us your most used "Heavy Hitters" of the last year. What were the shaves you kept going back to? Why? I'll start... TFS- Barbacco Moon Soaps- Havana Phoenix- Good Vibrations Proraso- Green Razorock- Santa Maria Del Fiore TFS- Tabacum Crepito Moon Soaps- Union Figaro Monsieur- Gold TFS-Tabacco Verde I used these more than anything else this year. I guess I'm a tobacco fan. Happy New Year! Have a prosperous and safe 2020 Shave Den-ers.
Meissner Tremonia Dark Limes Like an adulterous affair. I thought about this one while shaving with other soaps so I kept going back to it.
a and e grecian horse, stirling sand piper and deep blue sea,MWF,barrister reserve waves have been thoroughly enjoyed lately..mostly for scent.all great performers imo..
Seems the top soaps in performance lately are from the newest formulations of the artisan soaps: Arianna & Evans (strained yogurt base) Declaration Grooming (Milksteak base) Murphy & McNeil (Kodiak base) Wholly Kaw (Siero base) Zingari Man (Sego) Grooming Department (Nai) Barrister & Mann (Reserve & Excelsior) Midnight & Two (new formula) Tallow & Steel Of these, A&E, WK, B&M, & DG are what dominates in my den.
I only have about 11 brands of soaps in my rotation. I think I'd trade it for ShavePastures though. Top 9 in no particular order would be: Stirling SV Mystic Waters Mike's WSP Arko Haslinger Sudsy Soapery IColonaili
My top 5 soaps of 2019 are as follows. 5 Shulton Old Spice 4 Martin De Candre Agrumes 3 PAA Copalli 2 Wholly Kaw King Of Oud 1 Perfumology Clutch These are all soaps I tried for the first time in 2019 and used frequently.
1.DR K Limes. Genuinely very good performer and a go-to when i just need my shit to work 2. Yardley Black Label. Superb performer and a vintage classic. 3. Imperial leather: As per YBL. 4. Arko comfort. No finer bang for yer $£€ tbh. 5. Cella. Bellisimo.
Going to only make a list of soaps currently in production that I own and have used; Modern Williams Space Soap Stirling Tabac Captain's Choice Col Conk Proraso Red/Green Arko/Derby/More for You VDH Deluxe/Glycerin/Luxury
i will add razorock" the dead sea" as quickly becoming a favorite.fantastic stuff.i have the "project unbranded" on the way as well.
@BigD I know this is a "soap" thread, but I'd like to add that lather you have going in a lot of those pics is impressive. Especially since it looks like you are using the same brush (Omega 10048?) that I use, so I'd like to ask to what do you attribute that? I'm doing fairly well, but not that good by any means with my Omega, Proraso Green Cream, and a turned wooden bowl to lather in.
I use the 48 only on my Modern Williams. I use mostly Zeniths for everything else. @sgrdddy has a YouTube channel that really gets into depth on how to build a lather. I add water slower than @sgrdddy and a bit less. Once it gets to where I want I get the shave started. However, you can get lathers like this without issue with an Omega 48. I guess it's been around for a while now, but Dead Sea by Razorock was a revelation these past couple of months. I had no idea it existed until a friend of a friend recommended it to me late summer/early Fall. Also a terrific bargain at ~$20USD for an 8+ oz. jar.
These are the best I used last year: Murphy & McNiel - Kodiak Murphy & McNiel - Aon Declaration Grooming - Milksteak GroomingDept - Nai The Club and A&E Nuavia Noble Otter I've yet to try Wholly Kaws Sierro, Zingari Man's Sego or B&M's Soft Heart bases but hopefully will soon. Although the Wholly Kaw price seems a bit steep
Soap: Saponificio Varesino Cream: Castle Forbes Most shaves over the past year used Forbes with occasional use of SV.
