Nice job an them all, Tom, I especially like the Swede . The last several I’ve latched onto, needed very little (if any) work. I guess I’m just gettin lazy:)

From today’s flea market. These will make some nice restores. 5 NOS celluloid faux ivory scales with fancy bolsters. The bolsters have the look to be German. No warps or signs of cell rot. As a kicker, seller threw in an empty W&B coffin

I got this razor about a month ago and just started restoring it. In the original photos you can barely see the rust. I have sanded the blade up to a 3500 wet sand. The scales were also all scratched up and did the same 3500 wet sand. I still have to do a bit more on the scales but the razor is looking amazing so far. I also had to take a but off the edge and set the bevel again due to a couple pits on the edge. Right now I set the bevel on a shapton 1k. It does shave arm hair so i am ready to move up in progression. I'm looking forward to finishing the razor since this one normally goes for around 100 and i got it for 25. It's a mitsun 41.

Pitting all over, with a small crack on the bevel. It was massaged out. I was able to save the gold and etching.

One way to get a Heljestrand cheaply...

And the intention is to get close to the original design of the point.

I have a bad habit of picking up one of these Herder 49 blades when I can. :)

Found this set of honey horn scales, and with just a little reshaping, and making up a synthetic turquoise wedge, put it into the rotation.

Went with double stacked brass washers to hide some imperfections. The horn also had a slight twist which was fixed with a 2nd internal washer on the show side to slide the blade over ever-so slightly. Centers nicely now.

    I do love these blades.

This one was a roll of the dice. The pictures from the seller looked like crap. But, for the price, I took a chance. Well, in person, the razor looked even worse. My heart sunk. The blade looked all tarnished, and gunked up, but, the scales were the worse part. They were so stained brown, you could barely make out the "GoldEdge" inlay.
So, I used several types of polishing compounds, carefully, as well as a toothbrush. The layers of brown started to come off. Finally I polished the blade and scales on a bench buffing wheel. Surprise, the blade turned out well, and the scales looked almost new.

    Before: Ebay pics.
