Can't go wrong with the Blues Brothers. I got to sit in the car when the movie came out. They did a tour with it through a bunch of radio stations, including KLZR in Lawrence, KS where I was working at the time. Had the big speaker on top and everything. Totally cool.

Love seeing people succeed at this. It's not rocket science but it just takes a bit of awareness. "Beard mapping" is one of the skills that helps make things go faster and better!

absolutely ,thank you.i have a schick e2 that i like and don't really want to go down the vintage hole again.i want a modern single edge variant that is good quality without spending huge $$.i like the look of the modern de razors but i am not looking at those anymore.gem type razors don't pique my interest either, but are cool looking.like straits.

Nice post about your shaving history, Joe! Don't worry, we will have you mastering DE's, shavettes and straights before the end of this new decade. Lol!

Nice background writeup Joe, it sounds like you have already made some headway.

Two of the things that prompted me to drop out of lurk mode here at TSD were the diversity and the commitment to improve the shave experience where you are.

If you look around, you find plenty of folks using cartridges and canned shave foams. I still do to try application of new skills learned on other gear.

Two things I forgot to mention on my last post were 1) try knocking your foam down with a little water with your brush and a bowl. You may find the extra water aids in the severing of hair and 2) try not to get it all too early. Multiple immediate follow up strokes can be a source irritation. Relathering and making another pass is preferred.

There will be plenty of time to buy and use plenty of other stuff later. Rushing around and changing up every is what we discourage in favor of learning.

Have fun. Great to have you.

Included with the razor was a provenance documentation stating the material is from fossil mammoth (Mammuthus Primigenius)tusk ivory. He purchased it from Canadian Ivory in Vancouver Canada..... so it even originated in Canada. I found the link for the Canadian Ivory for your perusal. They state that they follow CITES rules as well as Canadian law. As mammoths are extinct there is no issue legal nor moral (for me at least).

The razor was made in Belgium and he has a selection of fossilized materials he offers depending upon what he can purchase. So I assume that he went through rigorous import-export restrictions between Canada and Belgium.

Very interesting. You learn something every day. I was basing my thoughts on Canadian Law based on Dinosaur bones. You can’t keep anything here if it is significant. I thought mammoths would be in the same ballpark. Wasn’t worried about the ethical piece- they are long since extinct, obviously.
There were lots of mammoths here. I suspect the same in northern Scandinavia and Siberia.

That is interesting since the site says they source their mammoth tusk from Canada, I guess dinosaurs get special treatment. I assume the dinosaur bones are much rarer and therefor greater scientific interest. I would be interested in a matching brush ;)

I have them both, Gary. Clint has given you a lot of good feedback. I really don't think you would be disappointed with either.

    Blade: Astra SP
    Brush: PAA The Solar Flare
    Lather: PAA Red Planet
    Aftershave: PAA Red Planet

The more I use this scent, the more I like it. It is a nice Sandalwood based scent that I really enjoy. I got a nice lather and did two passes for a DFS. I hope everyone has a great day!

There's nothing wrong with using a cart. Some shavers take it to the extreme:
