A short lead in to this project. For the past few months I have been fascinated with Adjustable razors. I have all the standard Gillette’s. Fat Boy, Slim and both the long and short handled Black Beauties. A few months ago I picked up a Progress. This is a really cool razor that shaves great for me. So I have been seeking out other Adjustable’s. I saw pictures of the Mikron’s. I was instantly smitten with the hefty look and deco design. Unfortunately they are way out of my price range. So a few weeks ago. I decided to try making my own. Getting in contact with Jeff @jmudrick he was quickly able to get me a schematic of the Mikron. I began studying that and my Progress. I went about doing my take on them. I wanted to address the slop that is inherent in the Progress. I settled on two posts to do the aligning. I also wanted to have as few pieces as possible. So I came up with a different way to hold the movable base plate. Now I have no idea how good this will work mind you. But it is very simple and requires little work. I used the Progress method of holding the adjuster knob. That is using a tension bushing. Simple and very effective. There will be 10 components total. So this was very quick to make so to speak. It took 8 hours to design and program. Then another 8 hours to machine the components. I am currently waiting for the spring and flat head screws to arrive. You may notice in the picture with the cap. The center threaded bar is too large to allow a blade to fit. All I had was 1/4” stock and I forgot to bring a blade to check clearance. A very stupid move on my part. I will correct this Monday. Hopefully I I can get the bung unscrewed from the cap without wrecking it. I still need to add the beauty grooves to the knob. I first need to put it together with a blade to find the full closed position. Then I can mark it to have it align with the grooves on the handle. At that time I will engrave some numbers, 1-6. It will have 2 full turns of adjustment. Fully closed will be very mild. One full turn open should be the sweet spot. Then adjust accordingly. At least that is my hopes. The razor weighs in at a whopping 164 grams. Approximately 3-3/4” total length. The handle is on the large diameter 5/8”. The hardest part will be finding a ridiculous name for it. As you may know. I tend to give my creations stupid names. Anyhow here are a few pictures of it fresh off of the machine. Thanks for looking. Tom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
If the past speaks for the present this will be another amazing accomplishment. Congratulations, Tom!
Awesome! I'd go with the TANK--Tom's Adjustable: Noob Killer (if it's crazy aggressive) Nude Kraken (from mild all the way to total devastation) Nitro Kite Neutron Kruiser Nasty Kitten Oh so many variations, but the "Tom's Adjustable" is mandatory
