The tooth brush kind of throws the whole thing off. ;)

Agreed. Hobbies in moderation are a good thing. BTW...everyone else is normal until you get to know them.

We're glad you're part of the 30 Day Crew, Myles. We're even happier to know that your school work comes first. Check in when you can, and finish the school year strong!

@Primotenore originally called me out for the toothbrush, Jim. It's not there now, but I kept the photo as evidence that toothbrushes can indeed be found in Kentucky. :happy102:

Tim, Tim, Tim...this is not madness. Bear with me as I appeal to you as a fellow English language enthusiast.

The vast majority of 30DC members have a large stash of shave goodies. This is the norm or the regular pattern exhibited here, and by definition, that is normal. It's not me talking here. Rather, it's Merriam-Webster in all its glory declaring truth from the rooftops! Now, here is the main point I want to drive home. If you don't have a enormous pile of shave goodies, you are not normal. :happy068:

A 30-day focus with the Variant might allow you to dial in your technique with it. Some here have suggested that all blades (except for the odd blade made out of recycled tuna fish cans and 1970 Chevy Nova door panels - @NCoxSTL has a list of these) cut hair and that Technique Trumps Tools. I'd suggest doing the Variant focus with 1 brand of blade. Once your technique is solid, you can change blades at will without affecting your shave. I have a handful of different brands of blades that I use and enjoy, but in reality blade choice makes little difference in the quality of my shaves.

I'd give some advice on this but that would be like the bedridden 600lbs man giving weight lose advice to someone trying to lose 10lbs. "I've lost 10lbs lots of times. It's easy."

Anyway, even vintage shaving gear is not expensive. Funny thing is, when I decided to start plating razors I purchased 3 fatboys before I got one that needed plating. I thought it was hilarious that I wanted a worn razor and the first two I purchased cleaned up to near mint condition with just soapy water and a toothbrush. They made excellent gifts so I guess it was okay.

It's all in good fun, Tim. Everyone is wired differently. I'm convinced that some people enjoy wide variety while it creates stress for others. I've been on a journey the last couple of years to narrow my brands of soaps and creams down to my top 5. That's plenty of variety for me. I've got a small rotation of razors and brushes (see the link in my signature). Again, that's plenty of variety as I usually stick with the same razor and brush for weeks at a time. Some of my duplicate razors result from my desire to have extra birth year/birth quarter models. Admittedly, I have gone kinda nuts on blades.
