Then you would hate the night shift at my job. :happy102
The day crew is too busy for me.
    Too much micro-managing, busy-work assigning, customer-hand-holding, etc...
If I did move to a day position, it wouldn't be in my current group... I'd move to one of the other IT groups or maybe grid operations.

Good morning gang! Busy last night I see....been a while for that... :D

Well, I made a very difficult decision... a friend of mine who is the Captain of another company (23 Engine) asked me to come down there. It's right downtown, in the "superhouse" Steadman Station. A lot of people there, where I'm used to a single company. Also, it'll be a whole lot busier than I've been over the last 2 years. I was at a busy company before, but where I'm at now (41 Engine) is quite slow in comparison. I feel like I've stagnated, gotten lazy, and I don't like that. Also, where I'm at now, my Captain is only a few years from retirement, and has become very disgruntled with how things are changing in the FD; he had also been beaten down by a micromanaging Battalion Chief that now he's so afraid of becoming a micromanager himself that he's not even managing. I need to run, I need stronger leadership to keep the other shifts in line... so I'm leaving a great bunch of guys behind (and that upsets me) but it's just something that had to be done. In the end it will challenge me, teach me, and help me grow as a Lieutenant. Oh yeah, and there's the HAZMAT thing, too. 23 Engine will be the HAZMAT team, so I'll get to learn all that good stuff, which I'll be able to take with me when I retire and find a nice job somewhere else.....

Wow Matt, that sounds like a big change but a big change worth making! Good luck with the new company!

Sounds like a good move. Stagnation is always bad. Rots your brain and your motivations.

folks, I could use some feedback. did I overreact here?

follow the quote link to see what I was responding to. it just seemed really rude to me and I felt that I should say something.

Like water off a duck's back, Mike. I wouldn't sweat it. After reading his post, and checking his profile I'm not surprised.

Are we getting an influx of arrogant types? Seems this is about the third time some newer one has decided to take a little swipe at someone offering a helpful opinion. Not that I'm an old hat around here or anything.

sure feels like it. and then he has the gall to go and offer a non-apology apology.

    oh well.

I'm done with that conversation now. I can't say anything constructive.

non apologies and false humility anger me. so now you guys know my buttons if you ever wanna get me started.

yeah, it certainly feels that way. I am tried of someone offering help to just be argued at. But I don't think this is a new thing. I have run into the same problem with other members in the past (ones that shall not be named but are blocked from many of you anyway).

Are they arrogant? Yes. But then again, I bet I come across as arrogant as well. I probably am arrogant to boot!

Mike, like Bill said.. just water off the back. Don't let it get you too riled up. You probably know in your line of work that there are people you just can't please who find the joy in finding fault (even when none exists)

Probably, but I wouldn't sweat it... Haha, we all know I've been known to do that myself. ;) I truly think he didn't intend to "attack" you, but just to correct some misconceptions about boar, which, in all honesty, I probably would have myself. IMPO, boar really gets talked down a lot while silvertip is 'coveted' and considered the best. For me, boar is best, and my silvertip brush has seen little use as of late. In fact, I'm considering either selling it or maybe re-knotting it with a boar knot. But, yeah, especially after reading his profile, I wouldn't sweat it at all.... and although he is a newbie here, I believe he's very well established in the community elsewhere...not that that excuses rudeness, but maybe he didn't think he was being looked at as a newbie..... does that make any sense?
