    January 10 SOTD:

    Razor: Gillette Fatboy
    Blade: Voskhod
    Brush: PAA Starcraft
    Lather: PAA Good Vibrations
    Aftershave: PAA Good Vibrations
    Additional Care:
    PAA Mysteriun Serum

Because Fatboys need love too, I got mine out today. I actually like the Fatboy quite a bit, although I personally do think the adjustment is more of a gimmick than an actual function. To me, the shave feels about the same on any setting, only the blade gap is altered, and IMO this is of lesser importance to aggressiveness. But, I love the weight, balance, and handle of the Fatboy.

The scent today was Good Vibrations, which says right on the bottle "Boardwalk Barbershop." I can totally get this, as I would put it into he Barbershop category of scents. It opens with some florals but quickly a woody note comes along. A very similar woody note to WSP Mahogany, for those familiar. The is some Sandalwood which often has a bit of a powdery note, and this is present here. After a bit, the florals become more distinctly lavender and some musky and amber notes ever so lightly show up. Presently, this is in my top three PAA scents, although trying to decipher between 1, 2, and 3 is splitting hairs.

As a side note, I still had a little of the Atmotic scent as I got home yesterday (how's that for longevity??). My 3 year old daughter kept burying her nose in my neck and asking "What that smell?" Then she would say “You smell good.” A ringing endorsement from a person of the female persuasion.

And NOW..............it's time once again 4..............your FRIDAY FILES:

-Continuing on the theme of "Technique Trumps Tools", perhaps the best way to understand it, let's say you apply a powerful excellent shave soap OR cream to your face, but you proceed to get a nick with every other draw of the razor, and/or you do the shave with no plan or strategy. Your "tools" were great, but you blew it with your technique(or lack of).

-I wrote this in a post earlier, but it is worth a repeat-I'm excited to compare the tobacco factors in Stoylin Gentleman(which just arrived the other day)and Clubman Reserve Whiskey Woods.I'm pleased that some members helped me understand that Tobacco Leaf is a "calmer" tobacco scent, thus it doesn't smell like ashes.

-It's interesting how some artisan shave soap companies reach out to their customers more often than others(provided we all sign up for their newsletters).

Awesome Freezy Friday shave. All that Lemon Chill...

Great shaves, Tommy. I have often considered looking into Godrej shaving cream (I haven't used a lathering cream since I started wet shaving). We have an Indian market down the street, and for three months I've almost stopped in to see if they have it--I'm close to bottoming out one of my soaps, so I imagine that visit is imminent ;)

Beautiful photos as always, Gary. Looking forward to those outdoor shots :)

Awesome photos, and beautiful razor and lather. So glad that things are looking good for your daughter... prayers continue.

Great shave, and wonderful photo--I really enjoy the outdoorsy pics :D

The Fine Fat Friday shave--looks awesome!

Another great Fat Friday shave--sounds like a fantastic one at that.

The major commentary of my shave this morning is that I covered an area that I skipped over yesterday...the "North Pole" area of my neck, just south of the jawline. But as for the overall shave, I finished the round of Whiskey Woods aftershave, doing the shave itself with Gillette Foamy Regular. But I believe the best part of my entire shave starts in the shower-with my Men's Bodywash. I guess other brands are better than what I have, as they have that "artisan strength", and I'll have to experience that sometime. But for now, I'm happy with Dial, Nivea....they tell me I'm going to have a fine shave.

Thanks Jeff. Yes, Jim/Jayaruh did a beautiful job on it. He is a class act and a true craftsman.

My friend (the owner of his brush) is a musician and a dedicated Christ follower. Everything from the Brazilian Rosewood to the symbolism found on the handle carries meaning. This is my friend's only brush, and I asked Jim to create it for him. I've been tempted a few times to have one made for myself, but I decided that my friend deserves to have a unique design.

    Good morning, guys!
    Rockwell 6C Plate #6
    Rockwell DE Blade #5?
    Semogue Super Badger Brush
    Stirling Satsuma AS & SS
    Nivea ASB not pictured.
Ok, I continued with my non-winter soap parade by choosing the orange-scented Satsuma. It is going to be 50 degrees on Long Island and it's January! Love it! Anyway, my Semoque churned up a nice lather for my shave. The Rockwell 6C really did an awesome job on my 35 hr stubble. Two passes and got myself an irritation-free and uncut BBS shave. Applied the lovely matching aftershave and applied the Nivea to finish this shave. Don't worry, I will be returning to my shavette and straights for the next few shaves, lol. Have a great Friday, guys! 20200109_225829.jpg

That sounds great, Jeff. Don't you just love how we can earn extra credit in Old Man Camp simply by falling asleep during class? I don't like to brag, but I earned extra points for snoring loudly. ;)

Thanks Jim. Jim/Jayaruh can order different medallions. This one looks really nice, and it provides some nice weight for the handle. My buddy pairs this brush to a Weber DE that I gifted to him. He's got a pretty classy set up, IMO.

Just as I suspected, Paul. It's impossible to compete with a man that has good looks, smells of Clubman, and has the gift of song! ;)
