    Is it May already????

Hot lather in the winter is a treat.

I am 1 for 2 but it clearly lost something even in the successful try.

Stirling BoS performs outstanding for me in cold and warm water, I heated the scuttle with boiling water from a tea kettle.

I agree the Feathers more closely resemble shaving with a straight razor, well at least the DX does. The SS has a lip and I hated using it, some people like it. If you don't want to drop big $$$ for the Feather DX there are some options out there including CJB which is a clone of the DX.

I also hated the Feather Pro Guard blades, go with the Feather Pro blades, IMHO.

    Oh my....
I thought it looked like a neat little tool.
What I call an elegant design.
Only enough source material to hold the blade in place, and a handle for proper operation.
It does work, I did some slight adjustment to expose the blade more.
    Till Monday
    Thanks Keith.
It's nothing compared to a straight or open blade.

Monday morning shave: hot lather test and Futur razor.

Monday's are usually a safety razor shave for me and I have not used my Futur in many moons so I loaded it with a Sharp Star in homage to our Czar.

Today's hot lather test soap is Tabac, I had high expectations for this soap as it is one of my favorites. As usually under the high heat the lather was bubbly and very runny. Usually when I apply it to my face the lather returns to normal but not Tabac, it stayed airy and almost dry. I tried and tried but could not get the lather to the right consistency, good thing I was not using a straight razor today. I am going to call this one a fail.

So far the hot lather trials ranking:
Fine - so far it is in first place. Kept all of it's quality under the high heat.
AoS - performed well but the performance degraded a little.

Stirling BoS - I will try this one again, it seemed like I have good lather but I had a very irritating shave, in warm and cold water this soap works great for me.

    Fails: Tabac, Stirling Haverford.

Doug, I appreciate your enduring the weather to take great pics for us.

I hear that a lot too. Having a hobby that revolves around looking good and smelling good is a good choice to me. That is not hoarding, hoarding is when you own multiple bottles of the same one, diversification is important.

Looks like fun, I missing having a fire pit.

I do not disagree with you, I could not master the Dovo shavette due to it's light weight. I admire you for being able to master it. If some like a light razor it is a great choice.

I agree if someone is interested in straights then should buy a straight razor, plenty of inexpensive options. Shavettes are great for someone who does not want to deal with stropping and honing.

It is definitely a cool tool.

    Razor - Fatip Piccolo
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Soap Commander Courage
Brush - 30DC Meet UP LE w/ AP Shaveco SynBad bulb knot
    Post - Alum

Well the snow began a slow melt today. Lots to go still but we'll get there with highs back into the 40s and 50s this week. Sunshine on the way too so there you go. Second round with the Fatip and Voskhod tonight and another shave with the Soap Commander. I chose the 30 DC Meet Up brush from @jtspartan tonight. This handle, like its brother with the badger knot in it, features the Bolton sigil. I love it. This SynBad knot is a great synthetic and it produced an absolute monster amount of lather. Why, a Bolton would have had enough to flay an enemy if they so chose. Of course, using a shaving soap with this kind of slick lather would probably make the flaying less painful so I don't see them using it.

Confused yet? You didn't watch Game of Thrones did you!

Monday awaits and a new week beckons. Hope it's a great one for you!

My parents feel the same way. :D My 16 year old daughter collects dice and I think she's nuts.

I'm sure its a financial responsibility thing. If you're being open and honest with them about how you are spending your money and letting them win here and there (learning to compromise is a critical life skill) I'm sure you'll do great.
