I'm gonna dedicate this shave to Brut lovers everywhere and especially to one @BigD who uses Brut in spite of the high levels of scorn from his mom that he successfully compartmentalizes as 'Joe Namath hatred'.

PAA - Et Tu bath soap
    PAA - Et Tu shampoo
PAA - Et Tu shave soap
Stirling High Mountain White Badger brush
Freshly honed up rescue John Jay straight
PAA - Et Tu Star Jelly AS
PAA - Et Tu Aftershave splash
    Genuine modern Brut deodorant

I picked this razor up for $18 when I stopped at an antique store on a whim with my oldest daughter.

    20191130_085725.jpeg

It didn't look to bad to make a shaver out of and I loved the mother of pearl (probably fake) inlays on the tang.

Not much luck with 0000 steel wool and 3in1 on the rust. A very nice gearhead at the auto parts store recommended Blue Magic Metal Polish Cleaner. I don't think there is any relation to the Blue Ming, but both are successful at their jobs. What is left will need more than I'm prepared for now.

To the stones.... After I got it I worked it on a slurried coticule setting a bevel. The rust damage prompted me to go to the 1k Naniwa where I worked out all but 2 pesky little edge defects. Got them cleaned up in 3k, 5k, 8k. Moved to the 12k and was just not satisfied with what I was after. Second only to a shave test my best indicators have been using my thumb pad for feel and listening for an almost musical twang while doing so. I've been successful getting this finishing on a coticule and a coticule slurried convex ark. Worked here and did a progression on charged balsa strops.

How did it shave? I could say it challenges edges I've gotten done by some of the world's finest. Or, I could say that it is just me, Harry Home Honer finding his own edge, the way I like it. To those who contributed to my success directly or indirectly, I give you my thanks.

    The rest of the shave/shower?
While PAA hit it out of the park in the Glorious Stanks Department, the only things I will repurchase is the aftershaves. Good stuff, just not good enough for the premium.

    Have a great week folks!

Fantastic report, Bill, and congratulations on your honing success.

A Brute revelation for me. I've always had somewhat negative feelings about Brute, but could never tell you why; the scent is not unpleasant, and the price is pretty decent. And then you mentioned Joe Namath, and it all clicked.

I harbor no I'll feelings towards the man, but my grandmother hated him. I think that left it's Mark on a young and impressionable me. Perhaps I haven't given Brute a fair shake...

It is possible that some of the hatred from wimmin lie in jealousy from the panty hose commercial.

Evan, I suggest going for a Feather DX (skip the Feather SS) with the Super Pro blades. Since you've been shaving for awhile, I think you'll appreciate the additional blade thickness (stability) and exposure provided by the Super Pros. Having said that, I've also been pleasantly surprised with the shaves I get from my Parker SRX. It uses half DE blades, handles well, shaves well, and is a no-brainer purchase for $25.

I consider the Parker SRX one of the best shaving values on the planet, ranking up there with Omega boar brushes, Arko soap, and Voskhod DE blades.
