Very cool looking razor Andrew. Too bad it doesn’t shave as good as it looks.

Declan is growing up so fast.

Thank you Tim. I enjoy the Hiram but would pick the Enoch if I had to choose one.

    Thanks, Tim!
I'm going to somewhat reluctantly switch razors for tomorrow. My new CG is marked delivered.

Sorry, folks—it was a long day yesterday. Here are my reports:
    Jan. 14
No time for pics on this one, and frankly, unless I’m switching locations or something (“…and here is my deodorant stick of Sandpiper, MMOC, Kong and Aqua Velva at the Eiffel Tower…”), I don’t imagine you’ll need to see that combo every time. Maybe I’ll bust out the Photoshop in the summer…
    • MMOC with SS gem blade (2)
    • Stirling's Sandpiper soap
    • Aqua Velva Blue Ice
The shave went very well, and I have come to appreciate how quickly and efficiently the MMOC does its job (especially with a relatively new blade).

Switching things up. Evan @MrEE sent me a newly restored and electroplated Gillette Flare Tip (and a Lady Gillette as a surprise for my wife--which my oldest daughter immediately ran off with). Since the past two weeks focusing on the MMOC have brought me the results I was hoping to get, and because I couldn’t wait to take the Flare Tip out for a spin, I have decided that my remaining 15 days will be a getting-to-know-you time with the Gillette.

When I get a new piece of kit, all I see are the unicorns and rainbows, so I’m reserving judgement for a week or so, and will just report how my shaves are going. I will say this though: Evan’s work on the electroplating is fantastic. Opening the package, and seeing it for the first time was like...

As to the shave, it should have gone poorly. I got home from work late last night at around 10:30 and didn't get to bed around 11:30. Sometime around 11:50, my 2 year old climbed into be with us, so I found myself contemplating the mysteries of life till almost 1:00 in the morning. The main mysteries I found myself pondering were: (a) how long is this kid going to sing the Spiderman theme song (about an hour), and (b) how is it possible that I have not killed this child by now? Alarm rang at 5:00, and I was dragging.

Took too long trying to wake up and get showered and had to rush the shave. Threw in a brand new Personna Blue blade (if blood gets drawn with my Personnas, it's almost always going to happen on shave 1). I didn't get all the way through the first pass before I found myself humming Sade's "Smooth Operator." Just a wonderful WTG pass. XTG was just as good, so I thought I might as well push the moment to its crisis. 3rd pass ATG, no time for touch ups. BBS/DFS with no irritation. Not even on my upper lip (which, impossibly, was BBS w/out touch ups).

Again, reserving judgment. Need more data. However, if every shave in the next two weeks turn out like today, the Flare Tip is definitely kicking one of my other razors out of the den!
    • Gillette Flare Tip w/Personna Blue (1)
    • Stirling Texas on Fire
    • Photo shows Clubman, but called an audible and switched out to AV Blue last minute
    • Unscented Glacial AB to keep the chill going.

    Razor: Gillette RedTip
    Blade: Feather Hi-Stainless (3)
    Brush: Simpson X3 Best Badger
    PS: Stirling Mentholated Pre-Shave
    SS: Ramblin' Man
    AS: Ramblin' Man

Continuing to thin my samples. I'm about half way through the Ramblin' Man sample. I'm another one of the people who didn't like this one at first, but changed my mind after using it.

Shaved with my RedTip after the FlareTip and BlueTip in sequence. Gillette sure made some great razors. It was another great 3 pass shave. One small weeper on the crease of my mouth during the XTG pass. This whole shaving thing is easy... :)

This RedTip was one of my early efforts. You can see the plating peeling on the silo door. That doesn't happen to me now that I've changed my process. I should strip this and do it over, but at the time I was pretty happy with the results.
