Cool picture, Jason! Love the shadows. Probably a wise call not taking the drive. Sounds like it's going to get worse. Make for a tough drive back home.

Great looking photo and shave Jason. You’ll finish that soap some day. If they take away your Canadian card your welcome in Atlanta. We can’t drive in the snow either

    • Gillette Superspeed Flare Tip w/Personna Blue blade (2)
    • Stirling's Sandpiper shave soap
    • Kong brush
    • Aqua Velva Blue AS
Today was my 2nd run with the Flare Tip. This is a very forgiving razor, which has led to some problems. I keep saying "2 passes and some touch-ups, but those touch-ups are covering my whole face, and if being completely honest with myself are another pass (and maybe then some). There have been no consequences for chasing after a BBS (except for a BBS)--no burn, no irritation, no weepers. Nothing. That's making me reflective...

I've been ignoring mild shavers because I had convinced myself that they just weren't getting the job done. These shaves have me questioning that premise. They also have me wondering if I was being fair to the Edwin Jagger DE89 that I wrote off as too mild. Who knows, it's possible the Gillette SS is a crazy efficient razor and just performs better, but I have a sneaking suspicion that many of my wet-shaving woes during the 3 years I shaved with the DE89 were user related. I may explore that further in a future month.

But back to the present: BBS shave and no irritation. My only concern is I spend a lot more time on my shaves now because I'm not limiting myself to a 2 pass shave anymore.

A great day and shave to you all. I'll try to catch up with you during lunch :D

So many generous folks on here, Patrick. I miss John 'Screwtape', he was a good friend on here.
Always nice to fall back on a MMOC from a scarier looking safety razor...:happy088:
'almost camphorous holiday accord'? I might have to go look this up, Jim. The razor is a stunner! Congrats.
Sorry you're not feeling so great, Clint. That knot looks very similar to a Simpson synthetic. I doubt he'd tell me where he gets them if I email him.
Glad to hear things are going well there, Joseph. A fine travel set up, no doubt.
Sounds like a good little razor, Danny. Congrats!
I see you have your MAYhem shaver already picked out, Blair. That's awesome, and we're looking forward to the report after you get that thing sharpened up...:eatdrink047:
I didn't even know Fraser's made a Mosswood. Tom. I've only ever seen the standard cream. Were they in conjunction with Booster? Same company?
Safe travels, Perry. Hold on to that Black Tie, I doubt it'll make another LE appearance.
Look forward to reading that attachment later, Jim. That razor looks cool as well. PAA has done a good job of resurrecting some neat razors from the past.

    Excellent shave, Jim!
Tim, if you buff during your passes, then you can get a BBS shave with 2 passes and minor touchups.

Yes I purchased this years ago. Sadly discontinued. Regret not getting the Oriental Spice. I have About 1/4 remaining so I use it sparingly.

Put a pot of coffee on! As I get older, a southern US climate is definitely more attractive. I've been to New Orleans in the early spring and folks there told me it was the best time of year in the deep south as the summer could often be unbearable.
There is a term here called 'Snowbirds'. Retired Canadians who live at home for at least half the year, but spend the winter months in Florida, Arizona, southern California, etc. I can see why.
My mother leased a spot on the California/Arizona border for 5 or 6 years until she started getting too elderly for that and my uncle owns a place in Yuma, Arizona. My mom isn't super thrilled to be here in the Rockies for winters, I can tell you that. I'm an only child, though, and this is where we live. She needs to be close to us.

Thank you Jason. The knot is a Simpson Synthetic. The original owner bought the handle from Brad and Simpson CH2 synthetic which was sacrificed for the knot.

I’m looking for someplace warmer than Atlanta for retirement. The winters are still to cold here.

After my great Silversmith shave yesterday, I decided to use my DLC coated SS Lupo as a point of comparison. I loaded another Polsilver blade and had at it! Wow! What can I say, but that I have some incredible DE razors. The only real difference between today and yesterday’s shave might be auditory feedback and a slight edge in smoothness for the Silversmith. The Glacial Stirling Obsidian soap and AS Splash were a wonderful complement to today’s shave. I really enjoyed the Anise scent as I shaved. But I have come to a realization. I have too many dang safety razors! It’s time to simplify. As a result, I’m instituting my usability criterion. Any modern razors I keep must be capable of both dome and face shaves. On the collection side, I will be getting rid of any duplicates that I own, and will no longer collect vintage razors made after 1950 with the exception of French razors. I have about 25-30 razors I’ll be unloading on a number of dedicated shave forums with the exception of one forum which is a shill site for the owner.
So to return to this shave, I can categorically state that this razor is a keeper as is the Silversmith. Two passes on the face and one and one half on the dome left me feeling clean, cooool, smooooth and refreshed

RAZOR: RazoRock DLC Coated SS Lupo
    BLADE: Polsilver
PREP: Cold Water rinse followed by a scrub with PAA’s Charcoal-Menthol Cube Preshave Soap
    BRUSH: Jayaruh Custom Silvertip Badger
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Thayers Lavender WH and finished with Stirling Glacial Obsidian AS Splash

    Wonderful shave and picture, Tim!
I have come to believe that efficiency is in the hand of the shaver, not the head of the razor.
All my razors allow the blade to contact my skin when held at the proper angle. I'm better and more consistent maintaining that angle with certain razors. Wider sweet spot. The others take more focus on technique.

I was going to purchase Home On The Range as my second PAA soap, but now I must consider this one as well.
