Great shave, Gary! I envy your ability to use Old Spice. I can only use it when SWMBO is away.

Thanks, Keith; my grandfather was an extraordinary guy! He was a great fisherman and wonderful companion for a young boy. He passed when I was 11 in 1958. He really knew how to enjoy life!

There is a bit of a story behind this software, which is my replacement for the Sudsy Soapery I finished last week. I was at one of those craft fairs before Christmas. I usually avoid any soap company at those things like the plague. They seem to never be any good- just a small soap co making a half hearted attempt at a shave soap. This one seemed a little more professional looking and I stopped and talked. Turns out they are from here in town. That didn’t move my needle at all, until she told me their products were now available through West Coast Shaving in the US and Stonefield Shaving (a fairly well known vendor) here in Canada. I then asked about her process, bearing in mind that I know next to nothing about how to make soaps. She said they had heard from wetshavers enough about a tallow base that they had just rendered their own beef and made a one batch run that sold out very quickly. Now I was interested.
I also told her I dabbled in making brushes for friends and had a few SOTD pics on my phone to show her. She asked how I could be doing this in town and she didn’t know. I said it was very easy- I never sell the brushes in person and don’t really want to. I said ‘how are you a professional soap artisan in this town and I don’t know yours? She laughed and told me the local area stores her products were in as well (our town is all of 20,000 people...). I professed ignorance. She promised to let me know when the next tallow batch was ready and that the scenting for the tallow base was a collaboration with Australian Private Reserve (I do not know this artisan).
I asked her about the soaps and splashes she had on hand and bought this vegan Kootenay blue combo. I put it away, knowing the end of a few of my tubs was near.
Today was the first use. Whipped up a quality lather, this is a quality artisan soap base. Slick and shiny. Not drying at all. I’m looking forward to trying the tallow base for sure. It is very strongly scented- she said it was meant to be reminiscent of the outdoors here- fresh, green, slightly aquatic. You can look it up for the whole description. I am lousy at it.
Now, the splash is a pretty standard witch hazel based milk. Nicely scented as well, but I really do prefer Alcohol-based, which they do not make. Dislike the plastic bottle as well. I suspect the plastic and lack of alcohol make it way easier to ship internationally, but I didn’t ask. Really like the soap, meh on the splash. I’ll keep the splash, I think. One in, one out? Buh bye Avon Spicy.
    Have a great day all!

@jgreenepa Very nice shave, Jeff! I shave my head WTG, XTG and then ATG. I keep my settings at max for all 3 passes. I occasionally cut myself due to operator error and it's never the razor. You hair growth is probably similar to mine, so please allow me to make a suggestion. During your first head pass put it one setting lower than your usual max. with the grain. 2nd pass, lower the setting by 1 XTG, and final pass, lower setting by 1 again ATG. Touchup any areas with the setting raised by 1 from your final pass. So, here is an example:
If your usual setting for WTG is 6.
Lower it to 5 for WTG.
    XTG setting 4
    ATG setting 3
    Final touchups setting 4
Obviously, if your original first pass is higher than my example, then you have to adjust settings accordingly. Good Luck!

Thanks, Tim! Thiers-Issard razors are quality shavers. As far as the gleam reflecting off the scales, I used a flash to take the photo.
