I was disappointed with this morning's shave(again with Stoylin BoS). Had a cut right at the beginning, thus that was my view into the mirror as the shave progressed. The rest of the shave was fine-2 passes, no "further" cuts, usual Stoylin smooth., clean and fresh result, solid neck work. But to BEGIN with a cut? Annoying. Let's give this one a rating of barely excellent.

Aaand an update for the survey-I have to play it safe and not project a winner at this time(course when we get to this late in the month, I always like to do a winning projection if I can). 2015(Feb. or later)and 2016 are fighting for last place. Those two have indeed gained ground since my last report, but not enough to impress. Cookies&Ice Cream and 2019 are still close for the lead, with the former having it for now.

    Good morning, guys!
    Shavette Shave #127
    Parker SRB
    Rockwell 1/2 DE Blade
    Barbury Synthetic Brush
    Stirling Piacenza SS and AS
    Nivea ASB
This is the first time that I am using the Parker SRB shavette. The shave went well, despite 2 tiny weeps. Hey, I put a brand new blade in a new razor, so what do you expect? Lol! Seriously, this shavette feels more like a straight, than my Dovo shavette. I will continue with comparisons as soon as I finish my shave review. 2.5 passes on a 50 hr stubble produced a IBSS++ without any irritation. Applied the matching aftershave and there wasn't any sting. Finished with the Nivea ASB. OK,now to finish the comparison between the Parker and Dovo Shavettes. The Parker is heavier and the blade is so locked in the razor that there isn't any chance that the blade will move while shaving. The problem with the Dovo shavette is that the insert loosens a bit because the main arm sometimes spreads out after many uses. This causes the blade to move and sometimes disappears into the insert. It's not a big deal because it rarely happens and the fix is easy. You just have to crimp the arm on both sides with your fingers so that the insert will be more closed and better envelop the blade. I believe it is easier to load and unload a razor into a Dovo than a Parker but ymmv on this. As far as shaving, both shavettes do an awesome job. However, I would not recommend the Parker or any shavette that has the toe (front corner) of the blade exposed for a newbie because there is a good chance that you will cut yourself when landing the razor. Using square point straight razors made it easier for me to use the Parker shavette. The Dovo's insert design extends beyond the toe so the chances of poking yourself is slim, thus, making it more friendly for the newbie in my opinion. In conclusion, I have had 126 shaves with the Dovo shavette and only 1 Parker shavette shave. Obviously, I am more comfortable with my Dovo, but I will say that the Parker is a better shavette because it feels like a straight, and the blade stays locked. It's only one shave, but I will say that the Parker wins out. However, I will always be grateful that I started open blade shaving with the Dovo shavette. It taught me how to learn the angles and to keep a light touch. Have a great day, fellas! 20200124_183241.jpg 20200124_183241.jpg

    January 25th
    Razor: Timeless Bronze SB
    Blade: Gillette 7o'clock SharpEdge (1)
Brush: Grizzly Bay Veratrum/TDR Fanchurian V5
    Pre-shave: PAA The Cube
    Soap: PAA Pineapple Bay Rum
    PAA Galactic witch hazel
    PAA unscented Star Jelly
    AS: PAA Pineapple Bay Rum

    Good morning

Wonderful shave to start the day! Three passes for near BBS. Light tickle from the alum.

Andrew @Linuxguile asked for a comparison between the TB and the H&S. It is close, ever so close. I give the edge to the H&S. It's splitting hairs though. My opinion may change tomorrow. The CG LvL2 could make an argument that it should be in the conversation as well.

The TDR Fanchurian V5 is a pleasure to use. It is comparable to the other new super high density knots with gel tips that have recently become available. I have the Fanchurian V2 which is another great knot, just slightly less dense than the V5.

Pineapple Bay Rum. I resisted this one for awhile. It was Andrew's description that put me over the edge. He's right, the combination of sweet pineapple paired with bay rum smells like Juicy Fruit. The pineapple fades pretty quickly to an excellent bay rum scent.

    Have a great day![IMG]

    January 25 SOTD:

    Razor: CJB Pain Stick
    Blade: Feather AC Professional
    Brush: Alpha Outlaw
    Lather: PAA Supreme Sandalwood Science
    Aftershave: PAA Supreme Sandalwood Science

This scent is pretty easy: Sandalwood. It is a nice balance of powdery Sandalwood scent and a saw dust type of scent, definitely leaning more towards the powdery scent.

I got the Pain Stick out today and did one pass for a CCS. I just missed a BBS due to the jaw line. Very nice shave. I hope everyone has a great day!

Thanks, Jim! I like the Parker, but it will take awhile to get comfortable with it. Yeah, it's kind of a funny statement since I have close to 275 open blade shaves.

Thank you Jim....I'll have a different shave lineup tomorrow, perhaps that will bring me success(which is not to criticize the Stoylin BoS, I'm just saying new leads to new).
