That's ok. Every traditional straight that I have in my den, I enjoy shaving with them as well. So, my previous comment still is appropriate. Lol!

Well, it is a hobby on the south side of the tracks and is an avocation on the other side.

Great shave, Terry! You clearly know when to hold ‘em, and when to fold ‘em when your father in-law’s concerned!

Got right back on the proverbial horse this morning.
    Performed a slightly different stropping ritual;
Untreated linen, followed by felt, followed by 40 laps on my Wladimir Savin 2" strop.
The Savin is a very slick leather, with barely any draw.
Results follow the lather section. :eatdrink013:
You have no idea how much slick 'n shiny lather is gathered within the PL10 knot.
    Take a look at this:

Side note: immediately following this photo shoot, the brush slipped out of my hand and plopped
right into the sink, full of hot water.

Now, you would think that I would go back to the puck and begin again...right?
    WRONG!
    Went right to the face.

Yes, the lather was wet. Yes the lather dribbled. Yes the
    lather was...magnificent.
    :happy093::happy093::happy093::happy093::happy093::happy093::happy093::happy093::happy093:
Side note: there was lather everywhere.
    Ok, how was the edge?
    Very sharp and smooth.
I deftly avoided yesterday's, still slightly swelled cut, but other than that particular area,
    results were outstanding.
Glastonbury is really the only "incense"-type of soap I now own,
having for the second time, sold a tub of Murphy & McNeil Ouroboros soap/as.
This time, I am truly, once and for all, finished with this brand.
The Glastonbury aftershave completed my Sunday shave and memories of Woodstock.
    Peace...

i am in a similar boat.i am glad i pursued to complete a finite amount of british gillettes.if i had chosen another path i would still be purchasing the newest and coolest.they are beautiful razors and glad others collect them.i still get the itch to try them ,but..there is still one or 2 hard to find sets out there that i am looking for but that's part of the fun.i will appreciate them more when i acquire them..now i can concentrate on my set up /pic skills and still get great shaves..:)..

thank you Jeff.the new standard is the pinnacle of gillette razors with the older 3 hole blades..i like them but prefer the slightly newer "New"series due to their modern blade use.new deluxe,sc, rfb and lc are my favorites..

Again, please let me apologize in advance for disappearing, but on Sundays I go silent.

    As to the shave:
    • Razor: Flare Tip w/brand new Personna Blue Lab blade
    • Brush: Stirling Kong
    • Soap: the very generous PIF from Perry, Barrister's Reserve Cool (gadfrey, I love how this smells)
    • Menthol: Frost Drops (one before every pass)
    • AS: Aqua Velva Ice Blue
    • Balm: Glacial Unscented
    jan 26.jpg

This was almost a perfect 3 pass, no touch up shave. Almost. The Flare Tip is nice and smooth, the menthol was just right, and Cool smells amazing. Fresh and cool, but slightly peppery and warm at the same time? I dunno, all I can say is that I really enjoy using this soap, and once my AV bottoms out, I'll probably give either Razorocks's Blue or Epsilon (which are both dupes of Floid Blue, WHICH Cool is based on) a run as one of my splashes.

Where things fell apart is with that new Personna. I tried to walk into a 1st-shave Personna relationship on a first name basis--too casual. Even the Flare Tip couldn't smooth out that faux pas, and on the 2nd pass I got myself on the lower jaw, right side. Nothing major, just a small weeper that disappeared before the 3rd pass. Still, a stain on what would have been a perfect shave: BBS and no irritation (even where I nicked myself).

I am definitely going to force myself to slow down with my focus next month. I've just about got the particulars nailed down with what I am calling "Dead Is Dead" shaving, which will serve 2 purposes: (a) get me to slooooow down, and (b) help me let go of 3 extra razors I've got floating around my house.

Have a fantastic and relaxing Sunday, all. See you Monday--can't wait to see how the shaves go :D
