Cavendish was one of the first PAA (back then, HTGAM) soaps I purchased. Always enjoyed the scent.

Oh the idea being the can would blow up but the contents would be safe(in the bowl)? By the way, I don't have the whole can underwater, I just moisten it under the tap while turning it over in my hands-maybe 5 seconds in all.

Thank you Jason. I seem to use SE razors a little over half the time. I go on runs like this that I stick with one type for an extended period.

Great looking shave, Jim. I tried to open the monthly recap, but it told me I needed a Google Drive account. I don't have one as we use Outlook 365 here primarily, so I tried to open one up. Told me I had to have a gmail address...hmm. Any chance you can cut and paste the top of that spreadsheet?

    Paul,

Pressure inside a closed container will increase with temperature. In other words, heating a spray can in any way causes a pressure and temperature rise. At some point, the container could fail due to the increased pressure. If it did, the main risk would be getting struck by a projectile and/or getting sprayed with the can's contents. The chances of failure and subsequent injury in this way are relatively low, but why chance it? Removing the shave cream from the container and then heating it gently in the open poses no such problem.

On a related (but different) note...we've all heard of silly people throwing aerosol cans into a fire to watch them explode. Two things are happening here. First, the intense heat from the fire causes the container pressure to rise rapidly, guaranteeing that it will fail catastrophically. Second, most aerosol cans use a flammable propellant gas. Moreover, the can's contents (lubricant, paint, etc.) can be flammable as well. Upon getting released from the failed aerosol can, the super heated flammable gas creates the "explosion."

Sorry for the long winded explanation. Just want to make sure you stay safe, Paul. We and the girls down at The Pig like having you around in one piece.

Thanks for the explanation....I just added in my original post that what I do is spin it around a couple times under the tap...I've never put a whole can under hot water, nor held it near a flame.

On the subject of heating aerosol cans....
It's actually quite interesting how aerosol cans they work.
A liquid propellant that boils below room temperature is used. When that liquid is put under pressure, that raises the boiling point of the liquid. When some of the pressure is released, the liquid boils until either the liquid boils away, or the release is stopped letting the pressure rise, thus stopping the boiling when the pressure gets sufficiently high.
The container the liquid is in should be designed not to deform when the pressure reaches the proper amount to stop the liquid from boiling.
Now seeing how all of this is temperature dependant, what the outside temperature is can change the boiling point of the liquid.
The pressure in the container is higher at say 80 degrees F than say 50 degrees F. Every time the liquid in the container raises, the liquid boils until the pressure rises sufficiently to stop the boiling.
Now the trick is to design a container that doesn't cost a lot and preform safely. So most are able to hold the propellant into a liquid at say 120 degrees F.
So if you take the container or liquid out of the design parameters, a failure can occur.
I don't suggest running the propellants out of parameters (heating it) to get the last little bit out of a can.
Oh and, smashing a can, deforms it, out of tolerance again.
    Just saying....
    Be careful....please.

Long time ago in a place far far away....
Steel cans were used, they would take lots and lots of abuse.
Now... aluminum is the choice of material used.
    Whats that tell you???

    Hope this helps.

    WWB Invasion (26mm, Frigate Class)
B&M Fougere Angelique soap and AS

Last shave of the month and the last shave before I commit to using the same setup for the next two weeks. Will all the talk about B&M reserve I decided to break it my Fougere Angelique. Used a little bit wetter brush then I normally would but still got the usually sticky, stringy result while loading. Worked in a copious amount of water into the lather and ended up with a very creamy, slick, lather. The OC Tech clone wiped away lather and whiskers with ease and the AS left my skin feeling hydrated. Have a great weekend my friends!

    TGIF!
