As funny as it sounds, Patrick, my Dad "sold" me my first used Seiko in the 3rd or 4th grade for about $25. He picked up a lot of nice examples at pawn shops around Ft. Knox. I'd guess that almost all of them came into the U.S. on the wrists of soldiers returning from Vietnam. He was a 'trader' of many things, including watches, so I'd 'trade' with him every so often. I've had more watches than I can remember since about 1970, but just one a time because I could never afford more than one watch. The watch thing has come and gone a few times since then, but that's when it all started. I've had a bunch of different brands, but Seiko has special place in my heart. I will occasionally check out the vintage Seikos on the watch forums and wish I still had some of those old beauties.

I couldn't wait to show my elementary teachers my latest watch. Kids don't typically fly under the radar, and I was definitely no exception. There is no telling what they thought about me rocking those big watches in all different styles and dial colors. :D

My early goal in life was to own a watch and a pair of Chuck Taylors in every imaginable color. I still think orange and purple Chucks are the bomb.
