Wholly Ka SS - La Fougère Parfaite
Fun shave this morning with Wholly Kaw's previous formulation shave soap. Jason's handle with the boar brush whipped up a very nice, bowl overflowing lather with a lovely sheen. Painting on & slightly face lathering reveals a very slick & thick hydrating lather, albeit somewhat transparent compared to others, even with a hefty volume applied. The Drew Dick razor is a favorite, both in how well it holds an edge, but also with how the smiling blade so easily maneuvers while shaving. It's quite heavy compared to most straight razors, so little pressure is needed. Width of the blade makes the protracted angle judgement (
@Edison Carter) a bit tough. I've found, with the many uses I've had with this razor now, that I can 'ride the blade' (first 1/4" or so behind the honed edge) and feel the cutting action changing/happening with blade angle. A very weird sensation, but it is repeatable. The blade is actually wider than the box labeling...it measures 8/8 across it's width, and is a near wedge grind. 3 passes, WTG then the 2 legs of an X for a DFS+ result. Small weeper under the nose, dispatched with the PAA Star Jelly. Finished off with WK's matching AS, La Fougère Parfait, a well made clone of Brut (the original). Comparing it to the current OTC Brut, the WK version doesn't have the alcohol forward 'bite' to it. Compared to the original (if the one I got in an estate sale rings authentic), the WK version is very close, but slightly more prominent.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Saturday!
