Yeah. I always found if I had more than a day or two's worth of growth, they'd just pull the hair out of my face instead of cut it.

Man, I love how well you get things matched up. Looks like the brush was made for the soap and AS. The Wunderbar is a sweet looking razor for sure. Great report, and sorry about the weeper--corners of the mouth for me are like landmines ;)

    Today’s SOTD:

Razor: Feather AS-D1 and British Gillette Tech 4-piece razor
    Blade: Feather
    Brush: Simpson’s Duke 3
Lather: Tabac & Sir Irisch Moos uber lather
Aftershave: D R Harris Rose AS Balm

I was reminiscing yesterday on how far the wet shaving market has moved on in the 9 years since I made the move over from carts.

The first DE razor I owned was a Merkur Futur and the second was British Gillette Tech.

I’ve been slowly selling off my vintage Gillette collection in favour of more modern razors and thought it would make sense to have a final shave with each of the remaining types I have left before moving them on.

To this end, I chose a 4-piece British Tech for a comparison shave with my Feather AS-D1 as the Feather took the original British Tech design and tweaked it.

I also decided to go old school in terms of other products used.

Tabac, DRH balm and Sir Irisch Moos were some of my favoured products 9 years ago and my first top-end Brush was a Simpson’s Duke 3 in Best Badger.

Whilst I no longer own any badger brushes, the synthetic D3 fitted the bill for tonight’s shave. I also chose to uber-lather the Tabac and Sir Irisch Moos cream for the first time.

This resulted in a great shave with the synergy between the soap and cream resulting in a glorious scent.

Whilst the Tech performed as well as I remembered, the Feather was smoother and gave a nicer overall shave.

I had also forgotten just how good DRH balms are and I can see me using this more often than I have been.

EDIT: I meant to post this in the SOTD section and apologise if I’ve posted it in the wrong place.

    Thanks, Tim!
Today was the last deliberately color coordinated shave of the month.
Great report! Welcome aboard! I'm Iooking forward to reading about your comparisons. I tend to lean more towards modern razors myself, though it's doubtful I'll be parting with my vintage razors anytime soon.

    I'm Jim BTW.

I've had Natalia and Boris working on the new edition of the Cartel Handbook. Given the amount of Vodka, Borscht and Caviar they are consuming while making so little progress, we may have to charge more than the existing $250,000 Rubles. I know, I know, times are hard and all that, but I think $300,000 is the minimum we will be able to accept. Assuming, of course, I keep buying the cheap vodka and "caviar". They can't tell the difference after a bottle anyway.

Jim - I posted this comparison up in the SOTD section yesterday and thought I’d repost it here in case you haven’t seen it. I hope it might be of some use. Andy.

Razor: Haircut and Shave NO75 and Carbon Cx
    Blade: Polsilver
    Brush: Wild West Brushworks
Pre-Shave: Bart’s Balms Peppermint Beard Oil
    Lather: Signature Soaps Danum
    Aftershave: TFS Arancio Amaro ASB

Today’s shave was a comparison shave between the H&S NO75 and the Carbon Cx.

I also tried some Signature Soaps Danum for the first time.

The Danum struck me as having something of an earthy smell (which I suspect is due to the Patchouli essential oil it contains) and it, in line with the other two Signature Soaps I have tried (Leodis and Capra), performed excellently. These soaps really are a steal at the price point they sell for.

The soap worked well with the Bart’s Beard Oil which, as always, gave a nice mild menthol feel to the shave.

    Onto the razors:

The Haircut and Shave has quickly become one of my favoured razors. It’s fit, finish and polish is on a par with a Timeless and I really like the smooth and efficient shave this razor gives. It fits well in my hand, has a long enough handle and is very robustly made (with the blade tabs being completely concealed).

The Carbon Cx, on the other hand, is quite a different beast. The head is noticeably smaller (with exposed blade tabs) and the baseplate is very thin in profile. The handle is nicely made, although the thin centre section does provide a less than intuitive means of gripping the razor than I’m used to. The polished finish, whilst better than a Game Changer or Start, was a noticeable step down from the Haircut and Shave.

In terms of the shave itself, I was expecting the Carbon to be more blade forward and more efficient than the Haircut and Shave. I didn’t find this to be the case. Both shaved equally well and I can’t say that I noticed that much difference between them.

In summary, these are both smooth and moderately efficient razors. If I had to choose one over the other, I would go for the Haircut and Shave as it suits my particular preferences in terms of style, fit and finish more than the Carbon.

I did read that yesterday. Interesting comparison. I have the H&S NO75. Love it. I've looked at the Carbon a couple of times. I haven't had enough interest to take the plunge... yet.

The Carbon is something of a strange razor - I expected it to be much larger than it actually is and I was expecting a much more blade forward feel to it.

I’ve got a Carbon Ti handle on the way and I hope that this will make a difference to the grip. I’m also going to try using some different blades to see if they change the dynamics of the razor at all.

Great selection and welcome to the 30DC, Andy. You can post your daily shaves here, or in the thread called ‘February SOS’. If you post here, we will welcome your nine years of wet shaving experience, and hope that you can help newbies to the wet shaving world transition from carts to DE’s, SE’s or Straight razor/shavettes. We’ll welcome your know-how and invite you to jump in and take part in the general shenanigans and discussions. Thanks for posting, and we look forward to more posts from you.

I didn't notice the size difference until you mentioned it. The H&S looks bulky in comparison.
