Restoration Questions, part II

So, this happened. I noticed the knot was wobbly. A little tug and it came right out.
It looks like the knot was resting on a partial ledge. Any suggestions for re-knotting? I'm thinking: Dremel out the "ledge" that remains; repaint the inside; and build up the inside with epoxy (and possibly dimes) to the appropriate height. How's that sound? What type of paint should I use? Thanks.

 

Just remember, glues don't particularly like to stick to paint. If I was doing it, I'd use JB Weld epoxy which turns black. I would apply a thin coat to the bottom and sides. Let it dry, then epoxy the knot on. Even with added pennies, they won't show.

I used this one as I like using the ones with separate tubes, easier and more precise in measuring. I only used this one because I needed it for something else and it was available, but I do prefer slower cured ones.................
