Thanks Clint! Sounds like a great story.

Had super high hopes for Black Beard based on reviews and emails. Unfortunately it's the 2nd strike with WSP. Kind of felt like the $50 a steak a la carte restaurant....when everything shows up at the table, hard to live up to the perfection imagined beforehand.

My wife and I always tell the girls....they didn't come with a manual, you just try to follow the path that's right. The other funny story....the only official thing that happened when we left the hospital after they were born, was a police officer inspecting the child seat and it's mount.....after that it was a hand shake and 'Good Luck'.

Not a good day to be out driving today. Roads are getting worse. Some places a bit north of here are getting up to 45cm/ 18 " snow with freezing rain. Probably about 5" or so down here now and blowing and drifting bad so its hard to judge .I have 2 jugs of fresh gas for the blower and safely back home again. Lucky so far this year. Last year at this time those shrubs in the right of the pic were buried deep and the snow banks were considerably higher. Winter is not near over yet though!

I have three WSP winners but Asha went by their store and picked out scents she liked.

Such an awesome shave, Clint! Bad Habits sounds like a great scent--barbershop with attitude. Also, that is a top notch photo, like looking at an advertisement. :D

One of the problems with having too many safety razors is that we forget certain things about our favorites. The LaResche 51 has a well deserved reputation. It is simply a magnificent shaving tool. The LaResche family were originally Swiss, and apparently spent four decades on incremental improvements to the Model 51. It is both smooth and incredibly efficient. I would hazard to say that this NOS example represents the endpoint of their razor business and is every bit as good as any of the modern artisan razors I've shaved with.

Today’s shave again featured MWF, the best shaving soap on the planet for those without lanolin allergies. I love the stuff! I have been using it every day since February 1st, and must say that my dome and face feel very hydrated. So much so, that I decided to forgo the PAA Cube Preshave Soap today. I just lathered up with my Jayaruh Custom Silvertip Badger and had at it. My first WTG pass seemed pretty close to yesterday’s perfect shave, but did leave some tangible rough spots in my usual places on my face, whereas yesterday’s first pass left me pretty much at the BBS level on my face. The same was true for the dome as well. This shave, not so much! I guess there is something to be said for the efficacy of PAA Cube Preshave Soap. In any case, after relathering, the ATG second pass cleared every thing up! If the goal is to achieve a full bloodless BBS on a regular basis this razor joins a select club for me. The club members are: Colonial Silversmith, Blackland Vector, Seki AS-D2, RR SS Lupo, and GE Jones Shake Sharp. I'm now on my second two pass, bloodless BBS. I’ll keep shaving with this razor until blood appears. I've never had more than three in a row. I still don’t understand how this razor can be so smooth and at the same time so efficient. There was no heat from the alum block for the second day in a row. I’m really liking this French shaving tool! I feel clean smooth, cool and refreshed!

    RAZOR: LaResche 51 Luxe
    BLADE: Wizamet Super Iridium
    PREP: Cold Water rinse
BRUSH: Jayaruh Custom Rosewood Silvertip Badger
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Thayers Lavender WH and finished with Fine Accoutrements Snake Bite AS Splash

Great shave report, scent profile, and photo, Jim! I remember Kiritimati discussed last month, and really liked the sound of it. Also, that Aristocrat Jr. is a beautiful looking razor :D

From reviews Ive read on the BB , the biggest complaint was the size of the container as to trying to lather in it. It can be easily transferred to a larger tub . The scent is kinda clove heavy and can linger around but everyone has there preference. I, myself think it's a great soap that lathers easily and stays thick. Found the scent a bit spicy at first but after a couple uses I've really grown to like it.

Great write up on the LaTesche 51 Jeff! Never seen one before . Interesting that they are more agressive than the Gillette. I finally found the Thayers witch hazel here in town but it was 3x what I pay for a larger bottle of Dickinsons . I'm just wondering if its worth the extra cash or is witch hazel all the same ??

Awesome concept for a shave, and even more so because of the epic results! Also, lime and Florida water makes for a great winter shave and reminder that all this cruddy weather won't last forever. Anyway. great shave, and great reminder of all the great people on this great forum :D

Excellent shave report, Paul. The pairing of Boomtown with Clubman Special Reserve sounds just about perfect. Enjoy your Friday, sir ;)

Had to come back to this report again and give it a second read as something you wrote stuck in my head . With the mild razors , sometimes we/I tend to overshave to chase the baby . At first I think maybe I was adding pressure due to mild gap mild blade setup so I could feel it cutting the hairs as the 2nd pass wasn't yielding results. After trying a more aggressive blade, I found the result much better and required only 2 passes with maybe a WH cleanup. When you described the pressure being on for the 3rd pass, right there it seemed like it took your focus away from just shaving to setting the bar for yourself. Thats usually when I cut or nick myself when I focus on the end result and not the experience of a relaxing shave . When I'm loose and relaxed the shaves are better . If I'm rushed or tense about something usually the results are poor. Just my 2 cents worth. Hope next week goes better for you with no more blood loss and much more enjoyable shaves Tim!

Beautiful looking set up, Blair! I try to make my blades last a week--whether they want to or not. Might explain why Saturday shaves aren't always as stellar as the previous Sunday. I've been similarly distracted. It's hard, sometimes, to remember that good kids aren't perfect. They usually swing back around, though ;)
