Thanks for the kind words, Patrick! I think it is very important to use straights/shavettes more frequently so that it becomes second nature. The goal should be that a shaver can use these razors so efficiently that it doesn't matter if he is running late. Of course, your shave won't be BBS, but it should be at the DFS quality. It may take a year or longer to get to that point, but it is doable. When I started shavette shaving, I did 3 pass shaves in 25 minutes. Now, I can do a 2 pass 11 min shavette shave at IBSS +, if necessary. I didn't think it was possible. Really, it takes practice and consistent good shaves to gain confidence to shave quickly with open blade razors.

I'm truly sorry to hear that, Jeff. Your earlier photo definitely seems to corroborate that assertion.

Thanks, Jason. It'd be nice to have it in the repertoire, but I'm not feeling a pressing need to learn the long stroke just yet ;)

Thanks for the advice, Jason. Clint said the same. I'll beat up on it for the next few days.

Thanks, Jim! It was a great shave, despite the weeps. It has been so long since I used these very sharp blades that I knew that I was going to have a minor problem. It's ok. Sometime, I want to try using a Feather with my shavettes. It would be the ultimate test to measure my skills. However, I am not ready to take that leap. I figure that I need another year or two of shavette shaving before I would venture into using the sharpest DE blade on the planet. I probably would use the Feather blades in my safety razors to get a feel for the blades before I would insert them in a shavette.

Just being honest Joe!I was a 30min shaver when I first started. Now I'm at around 20 or so. No rush for me as I enjoy the experience. I watched Chris @Bama Samurai in a video and it looked like he was just wiping the foam off. When I reach that plateau I will shout from the rooftops !

Shaving with DE/SE takes me a good 30 minutes when I include prep, set-up, shave, post shave, and clean up. I'm already a tortoise--I can only imagine how slow it's going to get with a shavette. Might have to start waking up at 4:30 instead of 5:00 :angry017::angry019::angry017:

First thing I'd like to say is Thank you to Jason @jtspartan for the Kootenay Bay AS splash. I smell so manly right now it's a shame I'm not going out on the town. Way to look after your fellow Canadian my friend !
Now onto what yous are all waiting for...the shave . Well it was another hot lather shave with my 30DC rule setup and if I knew shaving was going to feel this good I would never have believed it !
The lather was its best yet and looked delicious enough to eat....but I resisted . The Shaverboy blades aren't the smoothest or sharpest but they get results. I've become spoiled by sharper blades so I use 1 for a head and face then bin it. El Scratcho does not like el bloodo. Time for a cigarillo and a homemade brewsky! Lot of snow to move tomorrow. Friend texted me they had 50cm down and still snowing. They were out on their snowmobiles. Gotta love Canada! 20200208_000545.jpg 20200208_001116.jpg

My preference is to take my time when I am shaving as well. However, I am sometimes called last minute to sub and since I have my gear laid out, I have to shave fast out of necessity. When I used a shavette for the first time under that pressure, the adrenaline rush was pretty intense. On that day, I achieved success with speed shavette shaving so that my confidence level shot up like a rocket launch. I knew that I had turned the corner. With that said, it is nice to know that I have that option in my shaving arsenal. For the record, I just want to say that I do not recommend speed shaving with a shavette/straight, unless you want to feel the adrenaline rush. If time is of the essence, then I would use a safety razor.

Thanks Tim! Tomorrow I'm going to have so much fun blowing the white stuff into oblivion. Calling for sun so I will be smiling like the cat that ate the canary! I can't afford to live down south for the winter so I make the best of it . When I'm too old to take the cold ,I will turn in my Canadian man card and head for Florida with my suitcase full of white shorts and my golf clubs in tow!
