The Straight Razor Acquisition Thread

Had been keeping an eye out for a square point Bartmann 86 to go with the round point 89. Found one with almost no hone wear and scales that just needed a little cleaning.

Both are right around 15/16” and have a nice thin grind. I like the look of the pair.

Untouched, and in the raw. This Filly has a lot of corrosion, on the upper part of the blade, and tang. The part of the blade, that counts, has some slight tarnish. The corrosion will be an issue, and time consuming. Unfortunately, I don't think the etching on the blade is salvageable. I'll see what can be done though. I will say, this is my favorite size blade.

Got this last week I think. I dont remember exactly. Been dealing with the worst cold I've ever had and days are kinda blending together right now. This is hands down the best razor I own and its freaking gorgeous as well. It really gave me the best shave I have had.

 

Wow, you guys have been busy, lots of beautiful new steel.

 

Given I shave every other day, I was extremely pleased to land this high pedigree Manaslu M-55 “test razor” for a great price on a large auction site. Almost no hone wear, sits tightly within unwarped scales (slightly off center), and just a bit of rust and corrosion that I had to polish out. Went to polish the jumps and found zilch for grime there; so oddly shiny! Just a tinge of yellow and blue left in the etching. I’m really hoping this M-55 takes a fine edge here in the next day.

Kudos to @Steve56 for tipping me off about these. I snatched them up and they are with @gssixgun for some clean up and rehoning. Can’t imagine needing four of the same razors but how could I say, “no”?




They are smaller in width than this larger cousin that I have which is one of my favorite razors - a consistent top performer.

The design of those blades definitely makes me think of favorites -- nice haul!

Just won a bid on a 6/8 Marer and Grosh made in Toledo Ohio .
Was very lucky finding this vintage blade .You do not see them very often.Look forward to cleaning this one up .
