While it was a rough beginning(due only to me having a senior moment), my shave turned out great in the end. Middle day of my 3fer with PAA Boomtown Soap&Clubman Special Reserve A.S. The Jayaruh#59 brush did a fine loading job. This soap has "Kokum Butter"(among its ingredients). I don't know much about KB, but it really helped provide the slippery slickness of the shave. I could easily have done a 3rd pass, but decided to skip it. (Where have we seen THAT before?). Nice fresh clean feel overall. And now for the senior moment.....I began administering the soap BEFORE WETTING MY FACE TO BEGIN WITH. When you do that, it is very easy to say "Wait a minute, something isn't right here". Given the senior moment beginning, I grade the shave Gradually Excellent.

Sorry to hear about the finger, I hope you can make quick recovery. I guess you’ll be hearing about this one for a while. My woman never forgets things like this and takes joy in reminding me.

That’s why she hollered, but that all muted when she tasted my Gnocchi with Braciola alla Barese! :happy036:

I'd like to start of my shaves of the week post by apologizing for the lack of posts over the last month, college has been hectic with practicals, so i haven't had that much time to take photos every week.

I had a few interesting shaves this week, the old Nivea shave gel i had in my cupboard actually performed amazingly, so well in fact that i might keep a can on hand for traveling, although soaps are far superior for me. The arko and bundubeard coffee never fail to disappoint, and both have retained their title of being my favourite soaps for almost a year now.

One of my less used aftershaves, Revlon pub featured heavily this week, and i don't know why i dont use it more because its a fantastic classic aftershave.

    Shave 1:
Razor: gillette super speed flare tip(US)
Blade: super max blue diamond (13)
    Brush: Omega 49
    Soap: Arko shave stick
    Aftershave: old spice whitewater

    Shave 2:
Razor: gillette super speed flare tip(US)
Blade: super max blue diamond (14)
    Brush: Wilkinson sword classic shave
Gel: Nivea for men Extreme comfort
    Aftershave: Revlon Pub

    Shave 3:
Razor: gillette super speed flare tip(US)
Blade: super max blue diamond (15)
    Brush: Wilkinson sword classic shave
    Soap: bundubeard coffee
    Aftershave: Revlon Pub[IMG][IMG][IMG]

My Dad was a bricklayer. I worked seven summers for him beginning in middle school. Summer fun for me included mixing "mud" and carrying bricks. My evening and weekend jobs during the summer included neighborhood grass mowing and buying/fixing up/selling old bikes and lawnmowers. I also worked for my Dad during my college breaks. I was buying all my own clothes starting in middle school.

I always loved my shenanigans (I take after my Dear old Dad), but I did well all through school. I couldn't wait to show my report cards to my Mom...mostly A's...she would smile and ask me if that was the best I could do.

Strangely enough, we didn't have Internet...or cable TV...or even air conditioning at times.

Other than my parents' extremely generous provision of food and shelter, I was financially self-sufficient in college. Now how about motivation? Well, I was already keenly familiar with the difficulty of making a buck. With the help and encouragement of several wonderful middle and high school teachers, I selected a good career, pursued it straight through college, and never looked back. I never doubted that I'd graduate (didn't want to mix mud for a livin'), and you better not get in my way or else. I was blessed with some terrific professors and good friends in college. They became some of my biggest encouragers and lifelong friends.

Neither my Mom nor my Dad finished High School, but I wouldn't trade my "parental unit" and educational experience for anything. I don't hear many stories like that from kids today. That's too bad, in my opinion.

And I can still mix mud and lay bricks in a pinch. I just try not to be pinched.

    Who brought the bourbon?

I have to wonder if the modern unlimited access to the internet is not the most influential contributor.

For my oldest, I could filter things. For my youngest, I could not. And, I tried!

I take a perverse solace knowing that I'm not the only one who's done that. Awesome shave, though--I'm liking the sound of that Boomtown more and more :D

I have to admit that this razor is truly amazing! My third bloodless two pass BBS in a row! Today after cleaning up after the shave, I closely examined the baseplate! I always disassemble and clean and dry each razor after use. I’ve already commented on how the end bars sit slightly above the inner teeth on this OC design, but what I hadn’t noticed that first time was the very slight concave bowing of the baseplate. It is so subtle that it only came to my attention after careful observation. The top cap is also similarly bowed. The efficacy of the slant design is well known. Now I’m no razor designer, but I wonder if this slight bowing of only a few degrees produces a slight dual guillotine effect. I guess I’m grasping at straws trying to figure out how one razor can be so smooth and yet so incredibly efficient. My other 51 was not the Luxe model, and it was a smooth shaver, but it didn’t compare efficiency-wise. Now it was from the 30’s according to the guy I bought it from, and this one represents 40 more years of incremental improvements. So I’ll just attribute it’s efficacy to that! In any case, my third bloodless BBS with no heat anywhere! Is it possible to fall in love with an inanimate piece of metal? If so, I’m there! Hope SWMBO doesn’t sense my divided affections. I feel clean, smooth, cool and refreshed!

    RAZOR: LaResche 51 Luxe
    BLADE: Wizamet Super Iridium
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with PAA’s Preshave Cube Soap
    BRUSH: Omega Pro48 Boar
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Thayers Lavender WH and finished with Fine Accoutrements Snake Bite AS Splash
