Hopefully the Asylum will redeem itself, Keith. A very nice razor not to get great results from. Hopefully it was the soap.
3 straight days of different matching blue Noble Otter labels, Jim? You might have just taken colour matching to a whole 'nother level, my friend. Awesome pic again!
Yup, another award nominee for Terry in the 'scariest looking thing that is actually meant to shave something' category. You are competing against yourself!
That new Vintage brush of yours looks fantastic, Danny!
Sounds like you're getting it dialed in, Clint. The cream sounds pretty nice as well.
Great photo as always. I have really enjoyed your focus, Jim, and find your list very useful and helpful. What are you going to focus on next?
A great Monday combo, Perry. Enjoy your week!
I like your pic this morning, Joseph. Interested to see how long until that blade needs to be refreshed.
A great Monday shave, Gary. Love those Rhodium razors- Gillette really gave those British shavers a fine finish.

That is one of the little bonus features of the shaving buddy app, it captures all you shaves and pics. Now, if I could get them to build in a calendar section like @clint64 uses.

    Week 2
    Feb. 10 Episode 10: "Nein!"
Next up is the German 37 Slant. I really enjoyed shaving with this razor today--nice, solid razor with an instinctive sweet spot for me. Also, the shiniest razor I own...

    Untitled.jpg

... not usually a fan of shiny, but I really like how it sits on the German 37.

    The Shave

1st pass (WTG) went extremely well. Very light touch, and I avoided my common pitfall this week of biting the corner of my mouth. Inside out seems to work best for this confused area of beard growth.

2nd pass (XTG) still consciously using an exaggerated light touch, and a cold water rinse reveals a modestly close shave with no hot spots

3rd pass (ATG), and I just sort of let myself go with the flow. Which was a mistake. I am, by nature a heavy handed shaver, and that requires constant diligence on my part. Upon clean up, I'm feeling a bit of warmth, then notice a small weeper on the lateral side of my neck. Shave was over anyhow, but scores of 0 for today. A shame really--this was turning out to be a fantastic shave. Note to future self. Less and less pressure for each successive pass.

    Score--0
If, however, I was to score this shave, I'd give it a 3 for comfort--that lapse of judgement on last pass really did me in, there. And a 5 for closeness. Funny, if I'd have split the difference with a 4 & 4, I'd have been absolutely thrilled with the results. Even with a comfort score of 4 and a closeness score of 3, I'd have been chuffed.
    The Take-away

I believe less and less pressure for each successive pass would have completely turned this shave around. Especially for a razor like the German 37 Slant. It makes me sad that the 37 got a zero because of my user errors. Well, them's the breaks, kid...

Everybody enjoy the rest of your Monday! :D

What can I say? It’s day five of what turned into another face and dome two pass, irritation-free BBS. This is the grail razor for me! All I can say is the LaResche family knew their business! Maybe it’s my continued focus on MWF? Whatever it is; I’ll be sticking with this divine shaving tool until first blood or boredom, whichever comes first, and given how well the shaves are going, I suspect it will be boredom.

    RAZOR: LaResche 51 Luxe
    BLADE: Wizamet Super Iridium
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with PAA’s Preshave Cube Soap
BRUSH: Rearden Razor 316L SS Synthetic
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Thayers Lavender WH and finished with Florida Water AS/Cologne

    First-blood shaving... that's a pretty sweet concept, Jeff :D

I'm very impressed with the results you're getting, both with the razor and the MWF. Love the crystal skull, btw (in your photo, not the Indiana Jones movie... that was a stinker ;)).
