February 2020 30 Day Rule/Focus Pix & Discussion

I did this repeat of my 2018 rule to revisit where I started out and see just where I'm at today . Back then it was a blur as everything/ everybody was new and J didn't really have time to smell the flowers. This time around it is alot different whereas I have developed great DE technique and the only pressurebus holding out for 30 days with the same gear .

 

Let's leave as a challenge to more recently found friends.

At one point may have been the most derided shaving sub forum..

We didn't care though. We never made rules. We just tried to do something different and enforce kindness and respect. No one has ever been banned for anything posted here. Joy is best among those who have similar interests. I really enjoy going ninja and one ATG/touch and out in 4 min. I'm the technique guy. It's what I do. New guys need literal shaving advice.

Others here are literally authoritative voices in soap and scent.

A few have collected and evaluated all of the reasonable brush ideas. While creating handles that run from pragmatic to artful.

Others head out into SE antique world.

Vintage Gillette? You have no idea.

Others. like Charlie post memes of plaid fabrics....and disco. Shenanigans are fine. The thread is not easily hijacked.

SR... Many of us can do it. Several have been doing it for years. They'll help you.

But I digress.

This is a different shaving thread. Everyone is treated identically and equitably. I still see long term fixtures spending time replying to fundamental questions with nothing but warmth. Newcomers quickly relax and chat here. Occasionally someone very rude has appeared. The solution is simple. Only interact with people who are like you or that you respect. There is no hate and superiority wing of the 30 DC.

My sincere advice for newbies lurking:

Decide on the coolest safety razor you can find. But 100 high quality DE blades. Pick a soap. Get a brush. Use Barbasol. No one minds.

Come hang out. Chat and read. Do a rule.

It'll be fun.

My trusty Dovo Shavette was my first open blade razor. At shave #16, I was able to shave my head with it. It was at this point that I had the confidence to buy my first traditional straight razor. It was a Dovo Special 5/8 round point.

 

February 11th

Soap: NO Flying Hide
PAA Galactic witch hazel

so symptoms have not got any better, Gonna see my doctor today.. could be a stomach flue or food poisoning. Hopefully I can get some relief though. Been up since 3 AM. No shave for me this week. Hope everyone has a good day!

 

I shaved with a straight razor first. Spent several weeks with cuts and really bad irritation but kept going strong. I purchased my first DE because I was going on a business trip and heard I could buy DE blades at a drug store.

Good morning all.
Tried out my Eagle Improved razor this shave. Needed to remove the blades spline, then adjust things for the blade to fit properly. I was rewarded with a fine shave in deed.
2 passes head and face, minor touch up, no issues.

I'm clean, smooth and ready for the day. Not sure why there's not more clamoring about these types of razors.
They do a fine job, and if your not careful you can pay big bucks for one.
I am careful NOT to get caught up in that race, although I can see why, after using them, they can command top dollar.

A big 9/8 Osiris blade made up for yesterday's failure. It took some time to dial in the lather for the B&M soap but I got her done. A nice shave.

I had that last Friday but it only lasted a day. My daughter has been sick since Saturday! Flu season has arrived.
