The next razor in my random line-up was the Edwin Jagger DE89…

I love the way this razor looks, but am struck more and more with my inability to shave well with it. It gave me a decent shave, but I really had to work to get it--seems like I can put less effort into most of my other razors and get results that are at least as good, if not better. Perhaps I’m just not finding the sweet spot.

    Week 2 Gear
    • Blade: Personna Blue (2)
    • Brush: Kong
    • Soap: Stirling Sandpiper
    • AS: Aqua Velva Ice Blue
    • Balm: Nivea Sensitive Cooling

    The Shave

The shave itself was a pretty decent one and no blood. WTG, XTG, and ATG passes went well enough, and I kept the pressure light as I took my short strokes, buffed, and reduced away. Rather than worrying away at my lower chin and upper lip, I packed it up and called a DFS good enough. Again, not a bad shave, but one that, with some of my other razors would have produced better results.

    The Score
    Comfort
: very light irritation. Score: 4
Closeness: DFS over all. Score: 3

    The Tally

Very nice, Jim! I was looking at a Parker brush yesterday, but didn't pull the trigger.

    Thanks, Andrew!
Thank you, Jason. I had forgotten how good Noble Otter is. The Parker is the least dense brush in my collection. In comparison to some of the SHD knots I've been using recently I'm taken aback by how much this brush collapses when I squeeze the water out.

Thanks Jason! To think that I hesitated buying this brush and almost losing it to another buyer.

Congrats on the bloodless shave, Tim. I have an EJ DE89 myself. I haven't used it enough to get consistently close shaves with it. Probably a prime candidate for a focus that I'll probably never get around to doing.
    Thanks, Joe!
I can't say that I would recommend the Parker Silvertip.

I've said it before, Gary, that I think those 30s Gillette OC 'Crats are just the most beautiful razors. Adding the British model done in Rhodium is just a cherry on top.

MR41 and a Voskhod is one of my favorites as well.
Nice BlueTip Jim! That's got to be one of the niced I have seen.
I hate to say it, but I have a DE89 I have never used and I'm about to PIF it... :) I guess they work for people who haven't ever tried something else.
