  1. Beautiful looking shave, Danny! I was looking into the Blue Label a week or so back--they've got a deal where you can buy all 4 of their 'Label' soaps for like 12 bucks or so--seemed like it was almost too good to be true. Apparently not :)
  2. I remember your early days of straight-shaving and the difficulty you had at the start. Now, you pick up a straight and the joy you express when using one is encouraging to those who may want to travel to the Dark Side of the Moon. Wonderful shave, Maestro!

  3. Week 2
Feb. 13 Episode 13: "The Hardest Working Man in Shave-business" pt. 2

    Parker Variant
I struggled with this razor last week, and was very tempted to dial it back from '3' to '2'. But after some encouragement last night, I decided to ramp it up to it's highest setting instead: '5'. The results were pretty good, DFS, and little irritation, but man was it a battle to get this shave done--and my beard had the high ground. I ran the gamut of angles trying to find the sweet spot. Rode the cap... nope. Rode the bar... good heavens, no! And worked every angle in between. It felt like I was on shave #7 or 8 on my Personna instead of #2 (#'s 2 & 3 are generally my best shaves). There were no casualties in the form of blood or irritation, but the collateral damage to time and enjoyment were high. Too bad; it's a beautiful razor.

    The Shave
Each pass (WTG, XTG, & ATG) felt like I was taking on reduction one hair at a time. I moved that handle toward my face, away from my face, and all angles in between. It just wasn't happening for me today: great results, but tough shave. No blood or real irritation, though, so... win!

    The Score
    Comfort
: slightest irritation along upper lip. Score: 4
    Closeness: DFS. Score: 3

I'm actually pretty excited to see how tomorrow's shave with the Classic TTO goes--light, light pressure should win the day.

Enjoy your Thursday, everyone--it looks to be a great one! :D

  11. Great shave, Tim! Since you’ll soon be a blade forward guy with Charlie (@wristwatchb) on the shavette scene, sounds like good preparation to me! Nice to hear that things went well! You are the acknowledged master of shave hermeneutics! Have a great day!

  15. Interesting shave report, Joseph! A comparison between the R41 and your straight shaving might make a good article! I’d read it as an R41 shaver!
  16. It's mine, sir, but I am certainly not going to hold anyone to that. A quarter of a year is a quite a commitment--especially for folks who love to run through their many razors. I think those 1st 30 days will be the roughest for me, after that I can spread my wings and leave the nest ;)

You are, of course, welcome to join me on my quest for Jedi status, but only if it is something that (to steal a phrase from the minimalist guru, Konmari) "sparks joy" for you. :D
