February 2020 30 Day Rule/Focus Pix & Discussion

Thanks, Perry! It’s really like shaving with a different razor. The original was really messed up, and I paid the price by stubbornly attempting to dial it in! It just didn’t make sense! New rule! When one pays the amount of money I did for a razor and it keeps biting, something’s wrong! After shaving with a DE for over 50 yrs, it ain’t your technique!!

Week 3 (Comfort Week)
Feb. 18

Razorock German 37 Slant
The German 37 has given me great shaves this month, and has also been one of the easiest of my neglected razors to dial in. I was looking forward to pulling this razor out of the sock drawer...



Week 3 Gear

• Blade: Personna Blue (3)
• Brush: Kong
• Soap: Stirling Texas on Fire.
• AS: Tsuka.
• Balm: Stirling Glacial Unscented.

The Shave
Went pretty much as expected. 1st pas (WTG) had no issues. 2nd pass (XTG) gave me no nasty little surprises. I touched up a few areas that needed it, but kept the buffing light, and kept it to a minimum. I was pleased with the results.
The Score

• Comfort: only the slightest indication of irritation. Score: 4
• Closeness: right between BBS and DFS. Score: 4

Halfway through the week, and the German 37 Slant is my first razor not to draw blood--a good day.

I know Matt Pisarcik personally. I met him and his lovely wife at the Shave Collectibles Mtg last October in Cincinnati. He’s 35, a decade younger than my oldest son, and a knowledgeable young man, totally committed to his Gillette collecting hobby. It’s how he got into the business! I knew he would make good!

I think I found a misprint. You said you used a Gem blade in your German 37?? I used to own one, and that’s a DE razor. In any case, glad you had a great shave!

Beautiful scuttle, Clint. 4 seems to work well for my face and 2 for the dome. I may crank things up a bit for tomorrow’s shave. Today’s shave with my repaired Rex was epic. Just need to remember not to pull an Icarus and fly too close to the sun!
