I'm really proud of my Bride. She's temporarily restricted from volunteering at the children's hospital, so she's knitting baby blankets. These are going to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

One of our favorite things to do at the hospital is to deliver baby blankets knitted by other volunteers, wrap up the babies, hold them, and talk to them. We miss it, and we aim to get back to it later this year. The RN's in the unit simply don't have the time to dedicate, and sadly some babies have no other visitors. As volunteers, we're encouraged to be professional. Don't tell anyone, but we fall in love with these sweeties every week.



I get to see my Kindergarten kids tomorrow for the first time since Christmas. I'm allowed to volunteer there if the kids haven't had a rash of absences due to sickness over the past week. The teacher gave me the all clear to show up tomorrow. Can't wait.

Anticipating another trip to Florida next year, I've contacted the local children's hospital there to see if I can help out. Don't know unless you ask, right?

So why do I share this? Three reasons. (1) I'm proud of my Bride, and I love the kids. (2) More help is needed in every community especially from MEN. I've seen it time and again over the past 20 years or so. Women carry the load in working with kids in various functions. Father figures are needed. Not every kid has one that is present. I'm hoping one of my 30DC brothers will see this and feel led to reach out (now or maybe later) and get involved in some fashion. "Showing up" is just about the only required skill. (3) And of course, I want to aggravate those of you that only want to see shave-related posts. If that's you...well...

TGIF shave: Woke up a little late and decided to give my Toggle a spin. Dropped in an Iridium Super and was good to go. DR Harris cream was the software selection and dipped my brush in the tub and overloaded the brush. This cream is a top performer for me, way better than the soap. The Toggle even wide open is mild, I usually struggle with mild razors but not today. An excellent shave.



Today's watch is Seiko that was modified to look like a Fifty Fathoms. It is an automatic and this watch has always kept great time.

I'd like to do a comparison of this soap to the next Central Texas Soap one I plan to get...Down By The River. Right off the bat, we have Ocean vs. Swampy River, I'd say. This will be an ongoing investigation.

Thanks Patrick. A few years ago, it never crossed my mind to do stuff like this. Then life and my attitude on a lot of things changed for the better. Now I'm hooked. I realize I have more free time (and no kids) at this stage of my life, and that it is different for many of you. As I've gotten to know many of you, however, I see a lot of excellent Father Figures here. Maybe now or maybe later will be time for someone here to get involved.

In case anyone wonders if this is a girly thing for a man to do (I did before I got started), I get complimented on being a "real man" by at least one woman every time I show up. That's actually the truth.

One sight I'll always remember from my childhood days in Washington, DC is the big LONGINES sign at what now is RFK Stadium. I wonder if I ever had a Longines watch.
