Saturday at last. Even though it is a little cold, the sun is out which makes everything better. I have a trifecta of new products I will be using in today's shave. The Simpson Trafalgar T3 is a budget friendly Simpson brush. This one was shipped for under $40 which for a Simpson, is certainly budget friendly. The immediate comparison is to the CH2 Synthetic. The T3 has a bigger handle and a higher loft. The higher loft makes it much easier to splay. I didn't notice a glue bump but will confirm that later. The brush was very easy to use and a joy face lathering. The Dead Sea soap scent reminds me hot dry beach. I pick up the lemon and rosemary first with sandalwood and little green spice note in the background. All of this is over a somewhat saline base. I really like the scent. The presentation is top notch in a glass jar with 5.8 oz of soap. I found the performance to be very good. I would not rank it as tops but certainly as good as better than many I have used. The JAWS looks intimating but is really a very forgiving razor with just a touch of blade feel. I like razors that are efficient but don't require me to worry about getting a drama free shave. The JAWS delivered just that. Two passes had the baby in sight, so the third pass was just touching up and buffing my neck. A smooth drama free BBS shave on its maiden voyage. I can't ask for better. The Dead Sea aftershave has a matching but different scent profile. I pick up less lemon and rosemary and more saline, spices and sandalwood. I hope everyone has a great Saturday.

2020 Shavette Focus Shave # 1

The shavette focus began with two mostly uneventful passes. The first pass consisted of mostly WTG strokes, while the second pass was mostly ATG. This is my normal routine, regardless of razor. My muscle memory quickly returned from previous outings with the SRX. I made sure to take confident and intentional strokes. Anyone using open blades knows that tentative strokes can result in nicks or cuts. I had no problem going over my entire face, including those tricky-to-navigate areas around my mouth, upper lip, and the bulb of my chin. I also had no problem using my razor in the opposite hand as needed when shaving my cheeks.

All the skin stretching I've been practicing paid off; however, I managed to catch the front corner of the blade a couple of times. This causes a couple of weepers that retreated once alum was applied. Result: near BBS, completely comfortable, and no irritation except for two mosquito bites on the side of my neck.

Having the Tech as a back-up came in handy for cutting the edges of my sideburns and performing some light touch-ups around my mouth, upper lip, and chin. It's a neat little razor, and it will be fun using it for an entire shave. We're taking an overnight trip next weekend, and it will get its chance then.

So what was different on today's shavette shave vs. yesterday's DE shave?

(1) I paid more attention to keeping my fingers dry and my grip on the razor sure.

(2) The Chubby 2 is a much different lathering tool than the synthetic brush I had been using. I had tons of lather, but it wasn't quite the consistency I prefer. I'll get it dialed in. This bad boy eats a whole lotta soap.

(3) I used my brush scuttle and had warm lather for the first time in a while. It felt great!

(4) I got to have a little fun with my Travel Tech, and it was handy having it on deck as a back up...that's a first for me.

(5) The shave took about 10 minutes longer than a DE shave. I made up my mind to enjoy and focus on the process, and it was fun. My times will get better as I re-familiarize myself with the SRX.

(6) If I thought the Wet Earth soap smelled strange, it's nothing compared to how it tastes. This is not something I'd want to spread on a BLT.

This focus is gonna be fun, and I can't wait for everyone else to get started.

Good morning

This morning's shave ended with the usual results but a bit of a rough go to get there. The Dorco ST301 on its third use fell off a cliff midway through the shave. I should have switched blades but didn't. Very tuggy and some heavy buffing along my right jaw resulted in a weeper and a hotspot from the alum. Tomorrow's another day and another shave, possibly with a newly acquired razor.

Beautiful looking shave, Jim. Sorry it got as tuggy as it did. I'm supposed to be on shave four for all the razors I'm using this week, but I think I'm gonna switch 'em out--I want the last week to be a sharp one. Enjoy your Saturday, sir!

good morning gents,saturday shave.loaded a platinum blade into the 1940 gold prewar tech,built a slick figaro oud lather with the brush by Jason/omega boar, and got a fabulous near bbs in 2 plus passes.may do a tech focus again at some point as it takes a shave or so to dial them in.want to attempt a finish at my february flare tip focus..we will see..definitely shaves the same as the nickel plate version..no surprise there..very smooth and efficient razor,and historically significant as the only premium cased gold tech before ww2 as far as i know..figaro splash to finish..awesome..have a fine day everyone..
