    This was a highly instructive post for me--I start with the shavette next week (I actually played around with the thing yesterday just to practice a bit). It's definitely going to be one of those slow-and-steady-wins-the-race kind of things.

    "....the bottom of my chin is trouble. It fights any blade put forth. Defying logic and steel it refuses to heed to any but the most keen of blades. Trying to remove this god awful ruggedized burlap is a chore, to say the least."

    Sounds like we have the exact same chin; ruggedized burlap is, perhaps the best description I've heard to date ;)

    When shavette/straight razor shaving the chin, you need to keep the blade almost flat to get the best results.
