It is a wise suggestion, but I'm focusing on shavettes for the next 100 day's-- don't know if I want these razors hanging around all that time. I will most likely hang onto the Variant, though, to give it a fair shake.

Joseph, you know this is a family friendly forum :ban:

    A couple of tips:

For straights or any open blade shave I prefer a wet lather, wetter that I use with a safety razor. You want the blade to glide. My lather is bordering on runny.

Skin stretching is key, you did the right process, do not shave around, divide your shaving surfaces into flat planes.

It takes time build the muscle memory, especially for your off hand but it comes faster than you expect.

It is hard to learn to shave and hone at the same time but you it sounds like you lots of experience putting sharp edge on knives. I do recommend sending one razor out so you know what a true shave ready edges and you can judge your honing against it.

Be careful not to roll the edge when you strop. This happens when you use to much pressure or don't keep the razor flat on the strop.

If you are in a hurry: put the straight down and pick up safety razor
If someone or a pet my burst into your shaving den: put the straight down and pick up safety razor
If the edge feels off: put the straight down and pick up safety razor
If feel like sneezing: put the straight down and pick up safety razor
If you are not 100% focused: put the straight down and pick up safety razor

There is saying that it takes 100 shaves to become proficient and consistent with a straight. It sounds like you are off to a good start.

Tuesday shave: This Atlas Jwest is a near wedge. I just refreshed this blade and as documented I struggle with near wedges. The edge was good enough to shave with but definitely not where I enjoy it. Thought the second pass I was thinking I should follow my own advice. I loaded a GSB in my Ikon DE and finished the shave. The near wedges are going to be looking for new homes.

Today's wrist check is a Ball watch and the cufflinks are made with ancient glass, well at least that is what they told me when I bought them.

The foundational principle of 30DC philosophy is practice, practice, practice with the same stuff without change for a month. Usually by the end, folks find they have mastered the tool. Sometimes it involves small changes in your personal personal routine and technique to bring satisfying results. I've completed about 4 of these '30 day rules', I extended straights to 100, and then did a 30 when I took up shavettes.

Reducing variables isolates human error and allows us to understand where issues lie.

    Good morning all!
Tried out Pear soap from Dollar Tree.
Decided to shave "on the cheap"
    $1 brush ( for makeup )
    $1 soap ( Pear )
    $1 After Shave (wally world)
    $1 Razor (Dollar Tree Special)
I didn't cheap the blade, 1 new Feather.
    20200225_055424.jpg
2 passes face, 2 pasdes head, no issues.
Just a tad better than yesterday's Red Tip shave.
I'm not a fan of the soaps scent by any account, but it does a good job.
Even with the poor choice of brush, it lathered good in my water.
If I could buy decent blade, I could easily get a good shave for just a few bucks walking through a Dollar Tree store.
    Well then....
    ENJOY!
