Good report, Jeff. Not every razor works for everyone.

Beautiful photo and set up, Bill. Variant, Personna's, and Stirling was what I was shaving with for close to two years. I notice that on the bottom plate you've got the side with the notch facing the camera. It could just be a trick of the photo, but it looks like the top cap is turned to the side that doesn't have the notch cut in it. Still shave-able, but it throws off the accuracy of your settings.

Speaking of inaccurate settings, I may have discover part of my problem with the Variant. To get to its lowest setting, you are supposed to twist until you reach a point of resistance. This should be around the "1" mark. I purchased mine used, and I noticed that for mine it goes straight past "1", past the "+" mark, and doesn't stop till I hit "5". I forgot this. My last two shaves I wanted to be at the most aggressive setting "5+", but on my razor that's like dialing it past "5" and almost to the "2" mark. The less tight the spring gets, the less rigid the blade becomes, and that might explain why, hard as I tried to ride the cap, it would just tug and tug.

I'll definitely try shaving somewhere in the recommended range (numbers adjusted accordingly) and see if that improves my results before I pass on the Variant ;)

Again, can't wait to hear your thoughts on the TAR--that bad boy looks amazing :D

Well, you live in Massachusetts. If you ever go to Bridgeport, Conn, then you can take the ferry across to Port Jeff, Long Island. I am literally a 10 min drive from the Port Jeff Ferry.. Plenty of restaurants and bars and knickknack stores to spend the afternoon. I would meet you and show you how to use your camera phone. The other alternative is to meet me at Pasteurs Pharmacy in NYC and spend a heck of a lot more money.

Classy is as classy does, sir! The shave is a manifestation of your character. The clothes are just what that classy guy wears when he's at work ;)

Thanks for the "Invitash"(People have turned "Invitation" to "Invite"...let me play that game lol). Maybe I can get some help at my town's Senior Center, or Library. Once in a while they have such offerings. At Pasteur's, I'd probably spend 3 hours there, just to "economize" my decision.

Wonderful Turkish Tuesday shave, Tom! I always enjoy seeing what pops up in your rotation. BTW, my first brush was a no-name Turkish horsehair. Super cheap, but a fantastic brush. I let my son use it when he first started shaving--don't quite know how, but he destroyed the thing. Re-education and a synthetic seems to have helped him :happy102:

    Good afternoon fellas!
    Shavette Shave # 140
    Dovo Shavette
    Personna Hairshaper Blade (6)
    C-Mon Heritage SHD Badger
    Stirling Glastonbury SS and AS
    Nivea ASB
Prepped my 30 hr stubble with the bloom water. The C-Mon brush was loaded and started with a pasty lather. Slowly built the lather by only wetting the brush tips until I got a nice cushiony, slick product. ,Two passes gave me a nice IBSS++ without irritation, but a few pinhole weepers. The styptic pen made them vanish and my skin looks smooth and hydrared. Applied the matching afttershave, then followed with the Nivea aftershave balm. I am very pleased with this shave. I probably will ditch this blade after 2 more shaves because I don't like to go over 8 shaves with this blade. In the meantime, have a great afternoon guys! 20200225_144105.jpg 20200225_144105.jpg
