I have long suspected that some of the 'Holy Grails' get that status because they are no longer produced and aren't readily available. I really like the Floid Blue scent, but if they sold way more of it than the Vigoroso or the Original back in the day, I imagine it would still be produced. You can probably add Shulton Old Spice and a few others to that as well. If P&G kept the formula the same, used milk glass bottles and produces 1.2 million bottles a year, I doubt it would have the status it does.

 

Thank you, Matthew. I would imagine that you can get the Fine soaps shipped quite easily enough there. The splashes would be problematic, I would imagine.

Sweet shave, Jim! I've been following the TAR thread--just super impressed with how awesome that razor turned out.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the all brass version. Legend has it that shaving with the all-brass tar is like kicking with Chuck Norris' right and left foot--at the same time!

 

Oh, I know that is the reason a lot of these things are so highly prized. The other is a large segment of the shaving forums are taken with nostalgia and want old stuff that's not made anymore. In general I don't have a nostalgic bone in my body.

 

Thank you Tim. I work in a CPA office as a consultant. During tax season, I get roped into doing tax returns. I won't get around to working on my tax returns until there are no more returns that are from paying customers

 

Beautiful looking shave, Charlie! My chin is my Achilles' heel--or maybe the opposite. It's the toughest part of my body--my chin shaves my razors!

 

I like cool, old, shiny razors! Don't know whether that makes me nostalgic or not...

Thanks, Tim. @MrEE does nice work, no question. I got three done by him and all are very nice. The NEW LC I'll bring out next is perfect. The OT was a little more beat up, but still looks stellar as well.

 

My mom and my sister were nostalgic. They wanted to keep and collect old stuff for sentimental reasons. I guess I took after my dad. If I could use it I would, if not it was gone. I guess that is why he threw away all his DE razors when he switched to electric or carts. I was just sentimental enough to keep my first rifle he bought me and one pistol he bought me. Both served their purpose back in the day, but neither is something I would reach for now. They are cleaned up and in the gun safe. Likely the girls will give them away for a song when I am gone.

 

The surgical team has taken him back to the OR now.
