March 2020 30 Day Rule/Focus Pix and Discussion

Thank you, Joe! I'm hoping to train my muscle memory over the next two months, then break out the deadly Utopia Care shavette with its exposed heel and toe for MAYhem to fine tune the way I'm shaving. May will be my crucible (and maybe the next couple of weeks as well)

 

Congrats, Neal! Soap Commander has large tubs, filled with firm product. Not a quick task, but a fun one.

Blades - I wouldn't push a Personna Blue past 2 at this stage. After some of my longevity tests, 5 is tops even with the faves. If a Personna Blue is 10 cents, each shave is only a 2-1/2 cents. And if you do that every day, it's only like $7 in a year.

Corner guards - I wouldn't worry about the covered corners. DE blades were made for DE razors..... that have a guard, their use in barbershop open edge shaving devices is an afterthought. Artist Club type shavette blades are all radiused on the corners and don't need guards.
You should be judging your technique on how much more comfortable you are at removing facial hair. I don't need to see blood to know when my technique is sloppy, I can feel where I didn't get as close. When you are ready to test and prove yourself you can always do a popsicle stick shave.

# of hands - I have watched people shave with only the domonant hand, amazed at how they do it.

Thanks, Bill! I'm actually doing one-and-done with my Personnas for shavettes. They're a decent blade but the 100 pack I bought 2 or so years ago is still almost half way full. Typically shaves 2 and 3 are my smoothest with the Personna, so I may see if a 2nd shave feels nicer, but I'm not interested going beyond that.

As for the corners--just kind of a curiosity thing for me. As for the popsicle stick, I have the beginnings of an idea for May. A wonderful awful idea...

 

It most certainly was. Considerably easier to shave with as well, and not just because it covers up the corners. It's just a well designed shavette. I can see why he recommends it so highly

Just a sidenote on the popsicle stick - every July 5th we celebrate "Cinco de Julio" here at the 30DC with popsicle stick shaves. All those willing, able and slightly demented will make a razor by stapling a blade between two popsicle sticks and using it for their shave that day. One of our more "festive" celebrations around here.

 

We have a special day set aside for the Popsicle shave in July.

 

I battled harder with my truck today than I did the shavette. Damn electronics, o2 sensors, misfires, trouble codes . Please Lord take me back to the 80s when they made stuff you could work on.

Fast way to whip off 3 days growth on the head . With the Grand Canyon blade gap on this thing one should almost need a lisence to use it but its effectiveness is not to be denied . It was just what I was looking for tonight!
