Actually, not with this one. The gold one is the old Old-Type from 1907. I found with a Wilkinson Sword blade that it shaves fantastic. The Gillette ABC Old-Type has a completely different design. The ABC Old-Type is the one the rips my face up. The main design difference is the 1907 model has a permanently attached handle with a center pole that tightens the top from within the hollow handle. The ABC Old-Type is what we all know as a classic 3-piece Old-Type design. I have to think the blade angles are different because they definitely shave different and different blades work better in each design. Wilkinson Sword does a literal perfect job when carefully centered/aligned before fully tightening the handle. On the other hand, the ABC Old-Type is 'the' most finicky/difficult shave in my den (and weirdly, the best looking and most expensive razor too). The best blade I've found so far with the ABC Old-Type is the Gillette "The Spoiler" Super-Stainless. It removes 'less' layers of skin than the other blades I've tried. And that just means it's 'improved', not a great shave. The best I've gotten from the ABC Old-Type is a "Solid, but Sensitive...Border-Line Irritated" shave. And that was me being super careful with the angle and the amount of blade contact and keeping the number of strokes on the skin to a minimum to get a close result. I have to think 'efficient' with the ABC. I can't use it as long as the other razors on a shave. Well, those are my antiques. I try like hell to baby those things and preserve them. That's not easy since I'm actually shaving with them. So far, knock on wood, I've managed to keep them looking really, really nice. Razor Emporium did a great job restoring them.
