Tanifuji MaxFli Gold 100, cream was SMN lathered with the hippie brush in a Stirling bowl, AS was also SMN. Perfect Sunday morning shave.
I got pretty frustrated honing a Heljstrand MK7 yesterday that just don’t cooperate, so I put it aside and took out this Genco since I knew the geometry was good. Honed it on SuperStones 3k, 5k, 8k, 10k and finished on a Nakayama. This morning’s shave was great! Paired up with nearly the very end of some Declaration Grooming soap I’ve been working with and some Clubman aftershave made for a very nice start to the day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I needed to see if this edge needed a touch-up, so the Derby Aiku (by Matsukura) came up for today’s haphazard rotation. Used some Castle Forbes Lime shaving cream and balm along with my monster Rhodium brush GP20 scuttle. Well, so much for needing to touch up this razor as it just sliced through oncoming whiskers with that oh so lovely velvety JNat feeling. Looks like another honing candidate will need to be located...
@atbat82 honing a heljestrand is hard work. Today I used the shoulderless blade. It is german made and is nice. The other one is the heljestrand mk23 with metal scales Shaving soap cella and as Wilkinson classic.

You can say that again! But I think I finally got a good bevel set. It passes TNT, TPT, and confirmed with a sharpie. I stopped after the 1k and I’ll give it a test drive tomorrow. The good news is once these take an edge, they tend to keep it for quite a while! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I cannot keep away from this kiita barber hone, @Steve56. This rock makes me see why kiita are so highly sought after. Besides its looks, the honing feels just fantastic.
I want one of those tanifuji razors. Either that or the spalding which is the same. I'm glad it is working good for you. I have to say I do miss that razor. I was genuinely sad to let it go.
Filarmonica Doble Temple 13 in white, blue and devil’s spit One of the cheapest I’ve seen where I thought I could keep the width and length. The edge was excellent. Lots of work on the tang and spine, and right now I don’t feel like hitting the blade face hard. That could change over time. Still ugly, but it was uglier But hey, the scales are in great shape! Enjoy your shave. Tom
It is not a shorty, regular length. It is at least 8/8, probably a bit over. It is also a 3/4 grind, despite the size it handles very nicely.
CV Heljstrand MK No. 07 this morning paired up with some Oleo Shiloh, which I’m led to believe is a clone of AdP Colonia (or at least the scent is). A lovely scent. Easy 3 pass shave this morning resulting in a BBBS (that’s a “Beautiful BBS”, haha). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
One of a pair of kamisori, cream was AoS Ocean Kelp, and AdP Revitalizing Face Cream did the AS honors. It’s amazing how well these things shave. But be careful of the toe and heel if not muted.
It’s funny, I used to think muting the toe was “cheating”, but this weekend I sliced the hell out of my ear... I’m rethinking the whole cheating thing
They aren’t called ‘terror sticks’ for nothing. I haven’t shaved with an unmuted one in a long time, and I did draw a little blood, but just a little pink. Not too bad for getting the feel of the razor, this was the first shave with these.
It took me about three years and a bunch of slices by the ear before I realized that the whole “cheating” thing was just a stupid idea I was holding onto. Glad I finally got over it.
