Anyhow, here we go again. It is slow at work right now. So instead of staring at a wall. I decided to make a 3 piece razor. This is based off of my TAR geometry. .010 blade exposure ..039 blade gap. I used the same blade curvature as that seems to work pretty well. Also I am lazy so it was less designing. On this I made a believe you call a hybrid OC. Like The Muhle R41. I made 2 caps. One for better aesthetics, the other for maximum blade coverage for the stiffest holding. Unfortunately I cannot test the razor this month. I am doing a solid month with my R41. Once I shave with it. I made 3, one for my dad, son and myself. I am going to spring for hard black anodizing. I will do a pass around if anybody is interested. As usual I really need your feedback to improve on my creations. Without further blabbering I give you. ? by Tom (I am fresh out of names at the moment) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Nice I like the thought of the more aggressive head. If you bring to market I would love to ty out the ( by Tom ) let us know how it works out. Sent from my iPhoneXR using Tapatalk
It looks questionable to me, Tom. I like the blade exposure. I bet it will be a great shaver and a fun razor to use. You are a true master craftsman!
I have a proposition. As I cannot try it out for several weeks. I will let a brave member get the very first go at it. Mind you I have absolutely no Idea how it will shave. It will also most likely need a bit of loving when loading the blade. I found that out when testing blade loading the first time. I made the tolerances too tight. My Dorko blade fit but my Gillette did not. I needed to file the standing sections on the underside of the cap to get the blade to load. You may have to do this more. Don’t be intimidated by that. It is part of the prototype process. DO I HAVE A TAKER? OR 2 I can send out 2 for true testing. Reply at your own risk
VERY, VERY nice looking razor and handle!!! If it shaves as good as it looks you have a definate winner.
I'm happy to be a guinea pig & take one for an initial spin. I'll shave with it 3 - 5 times & write my impressions for your consideration. If a more senior member of the forum wants to try it, I will defer to them. Let me know.
First in wins. I will send a second one out also if anybody else wants to help me out. Shoot me your addy on a pm. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
One down one to go. If you choose to accept your potential death from bleeding out. I will want you to post all of the gory details for all to see. Good and especially bad. Bad adds to the excitement and me learning from my short comings. Most of all I want you to have fun. Tom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! I almost wet myself. Glad I didn’t as there is no toilet paper to clean up. I do however have an Orange tree that has some soft leaves for the dirty work Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Here are some weights Looks like 45 or so grams for the razor. You can always use your own handle to increase the weight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I'd be honored, Tom, but I'm on the front end of a 100-shave focus with a shavette. Maybe down the road, if that's OK.
This here is the only thing I see that really stands out. It is due I believe as there is not a standard for the cutouts in DE Blades. I made the width of the lateral posts net to the cutout on a Dorko blade. The Gillette I tried is about .001 smaller in width and .005 shorter in length. Width is not a problem. As when you bend the blade it opens slightly. But the length binds trying to load it. I wanted to make as tight a fit as possible to keep alignment as close to perfect as possible. When loading the blade on the cap. It will snap into position. By this I mean it will take the curve. I corrected the length issue on the low profile cap. That should load fine. WTF is up with this first picture? I have no clue as to what I did Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Since it is a one off for now why not just take a needle file to the ends and take about .0005 off on each end.
Ok @BBS you will be victim 2 I have always appreciated your honesty. Shoot my your addy on a pm. Just so I know I have it. I will try to get them out Monday, Tuesday at the latest. Your willingness to die for the cause is admirable. We might make a statue for you even. Tom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
