It is. Dead? As in the forum has been dragging, or no one's been posting?

I know he took down the arcade while he and Known Host work on figuring out the next steps to our server upgrade. Or something like that. As the info comes in one ear, some of it sticks to the candy in my head and some just goes right out the other ear. :D

The forum was dragging. Sometime around 1:00? Nothing was loading, so I went and watched some TV. After I was caught back up on Eureka, the forum pages were loading faster than they have in months. But.. ymmv.

I am intrigued out Jim and Google helped you bust a spammer. Perhaps I should PM.

yeah, the forum was completely offline for a few minutes there, I couldn't get on either, but I knew Sparky was working on stuff so I didn't sweat it.

Bobby is still at work work. He can't do any forum work from there. It was probably just the ups and downs of the server you're talking about.

We're gonna have to buy a bigger server very soon. It's inevitable. From what I understand.
Yep, that, too. It was a nice way to end the day. Doing the easy stuff.

Doug, sorry to see that.. What caused it?

You see that darker wood material? It's actually the sapwood of the hickory this was cut from. It is what caused this. The sapwood was too weak for the heartwood core. I should have known better. :(

This is the last time I build one like this.

Yeah... but I know I have read directions for making 1/2 sapwood 1/2 hardwood bows...

quick search turns up at least one reference "Cut it so that it is half sap and half heartwood, flat on the sapwood side (or front) and round on the heartwood side (or back)"

I know it is frustrating.. but you are learning and improving.

That was shaping up to be a nice bow, too.

So, after I got in this morning and got settled, I took a notion to try polishing up my straight razor.
It's a Geneva that I've had lying around for years after buying it from an antique store on a whim.
It's basically in great shape. The scales are smooth and still tight-fitting, the blade doesn't have any nicks, and the staining is minimal.
I didn't take any before & after pics unfortunately. :ashamed001
That's the way I am... I get a wild hair to do something and don't take the time to photo-document.
It's still got some stains and I either need to try a different method or just accept it as it is.
    I'm thinking maybe the latter.
It would really benefit from a trip to a honemeister and a strop. ;)

It may very well be possible to make it, but it ain't going to be me. I'll try a few other styles before I get back to the hickory sapwood bows.

Yeah, as sad is it was that it broke, I did learn so much from this bow. I get better with every attempt. I still have a few more in the works, so I'll post those as they come.
