  6. A bit unpredictable. Trying to forecast school volume, keep workers employed, and be the chief babysitter all in one. Better than being a cruise ship captain right now, though.

I hope the move back to Alabama has been good for you, and your new phase of life is going well, Chris. Keep the faith, brother!

  9. Aaaand another nice shave this morning with Jeeves Bay RUM Soap finished off by Stephan Bay Rum A.S. Wow...if it weren't for the fact that I once again skipped over that delicate area on my right cheek side, I'd have given this the highest grade possible. Once again strong loading(I had the Stoylin li'l brudder brush to do the work). Neat, solid application to the face and neck(yes, including the area I would later go on to miss-as identified above). 2 passes, zero cuts. Shook the Stephan this time, and it felt better on me today than yesterday. As one who doesn't care for cloves relative to shaving(and how many times have I said this...1...5....500??), anything clovey will be shaken by me from here on out. As it is, Stephan's clove amount isn't much. I'm sure it's stronger in the Ogalalla and Clubman offerings. I'll settle for Most Excellent.

  15. Thanks Gary....I must find ways to get the Stephan Bay Rum A.S. busier than it has been.
  16. Fantastic shave Paul!

The only two bay rum I smell no clove is...
    PAA Atomic Bay Rum
    Captain's Choice Bay Rum
Those are the ones I have so far.
    Keep up the good work.

  17. That New looks very nice Gary!
    Great work.

  18. Thank you, Terry. You'right-Smitty at PAA avoids cloves on his bay rums. I should know, I have one of them muhself(Not the Atomic)...I'm glad to see you don't smell'em in the Captain's Choice, as the results appear mixed on that one.

    Good morning guys!
    300th Open Blade Shave!
    Traditional Straight Razor Shave #150
    Dovo Special 5/8 Round Point
    Barbury Synthetic Brush
    Proraso Green SS and AS
    Nivea ASB
The Dovo Special was my very first straight razor and I thought it would be appropriate to use it for these 2 milestones of 300 open blade shaves and 150 traditional straight razor shaves. Ok, let me get on with the report. The Barbury brush did a nice job facelathering the Proraso. Proraso has a nice, clean scent and it really is one of the easiest soaps to lather. It is slick and has a nice cushion to give a nice shave. Did 2.5 passes on a 48 hr beard to get an IBBS+/VBBS shave, but did get 2 inconsequential weeps that disappeared with only cold water. I have honed this blade with lapping films and it is the 7th shave after the fact. The blade is not dull, but it isn't as sharp as I like it. I will keep an eye on it to see how long I can use it before I have to refresh. It is quite puzzling because I honed another razor (vintage) and had 32 shaves on it and it still is good to go. I think it has to do with the difference between Sheffield and Solingen steel as well as the craftsmanship. It also could be that I may have inadvertently slightly rolled the blade on the strop or didn't give it enough laps on the different films. However, I got very nice audible feedback so who knows. Lol! I remember the last time I used this razor and I had the same opinion of this razor. I guess I have to Crox it. Finished with the matching aftershave and the Nivea ASB for a really nice shave. Have a nice Sunday guys! 20200314_224741.jpg 20200314_224741.jpg
