Great looking shave Jim. We seemed to have jumped from winter straight to summer with temps approaching 80. The yellow green cloud of pollen is covering everything.

    Thanks, Clint!
I'm ready for warmer weather but would prefer a more gradual increase. Jumping straight into 80 degree temps would be rough.

Everyone has their favorites. Stirling was the first soap I bout in 2014 along with TOBS Sandalwood Cream. I had not tried Stirling again until last year when Perry sent me the Stirling Bay Rum. Later I bought Stirling R4L. R4L was a wonderful scent that rivaled anything I have tried. While Stirling soap base works great, I am not a fan of his scents. I realize that is just my personal preference. I have never used Proraso soaps but I have used Proraso cream and their cream sold in Bath & Body works. Proraso flat works and is a joy to use. I don't like the white residue it leaves on the sink, razors and brushes.

It is still 77 here at 8pm. I went from a coat last week, to shirt sleeves and will likely be short sleeves tomorrow. Hard for an old guy to keep up.

That appears to be the pattern these years in MA. You don't see much Spring now.

    Shavette Shave #18

    Gear
    • Razor: The Max Headroom Focus R21 shavette
    • Blade: Feather (2)
    • Brush: Stirling Finest Badger (fan)
    • Soap: Soap Commander “Drive”
    • Menthol: Stirling Frost Drops
    • AS: Aqua Velva Ice Blue
    • Balm: Stirling Glacial Unscented
    20.jpg

    The Shave...
A 2 pass (WTG/XTG) shave today, and just like yesterday, limited touch ups. Gotta say this about the Feathers: Shave #2 was considerably smoother and less grabby than shave #1. Really enjoyed it--heck I might try to squeeze a 3rd shave out of that blade.

The result was CCS, slightly rough chin, and no irritation. This is a fine at work or at home shave--presentable, but by no means glassy smooth.

Hope everybody has a fantastic Friday! :D

    18 down, 82 to go!

Soap - Oleo Soapworks El Caballero
    Brush - The Canuck
    Post - Alum

Back to cloudy and chilly in the Lou and it's Spring already so what the?!?!?!?!?! Oh, wait, yeah. It's that time of year where it might be Spring in the morning, Winter by noon and then Summer back to Winter around dinnertime. Shouldn't even be surprised. The good news, though, is that it is a Friday and it's almost over! That means the weekend is here and, in spite of social distancing, everything entertaining being cancelled, and having to dodge viruses swirling around our heads, that's a very good thing!

The shave tonight is another very good thing. Another one with the Feather SS and Pro blade. Stayed with the El Caballero and used the Canuck to make mountains of lather. That flat top SynBad knot really does the trick. Three passes of smooth sharpness and I do believe I found the baby tonight. Didn't even have to try and chase the little devil. Hope you had a great Friday and hope you find something fun to do this weekend. Hey, there's always talking shaving, right??

It is an excellent shave once again, Tim! Don't worry about BBS shaves. It will come, but part of the learning process is to know if your skin can handle a BBS shave from a shavette. When I first started straights and shavettes, my goal was to get BBS on every shave. 95% of the time I was on it. After awhile, I learned to cut down on my passes from 3 to 2 to 2.5 and get as close to a BBS (IBSS+ or IBSS++) without irritation or cuts. This was my evolution. I also realized that I shave according to the situation at hand, be it work, social event or fast touchup. This would also determine what razor, brush and software to use persuant to aforementioned activities. Remember, many have tried shavettes and quit after 1 or 2 weeks. You went beyond them with great shaves for the little experience that you have attained. If you need any more encouragement, then consider this for a moment. You are doing almost as good as my first 18 shavette shaves. I consider you a natural because you picked up this skill very quickly.

    Good evening guys
    Schick Inj Razor E3
    Schick Blade (5)
    Stirling Boar Brush
    Sandalwood SS and AS
    Nivea ASB
I used the same setup, but changed the brush. I have a love/hate relationship with this brush because it used to shed and it is not as soft as my Omega Pro 49. Alas, tonight was different because this brush did a great job giving me a nice voluminous and cushiony lather. As I was shaving, I noticed that the razor can't handle thick lather because the head is not wide enough to hold a lot of lather. So the next time, I have to make the lather more runny and thinner. Did 2.5 passes with touchups to get a BBS shave with no blood loss or irritation. Applied the matching aftershave and the Nivea to complete this wonderful shave. Sunday will be the fifth and final shave of this mini focus. Have a good night and a great Saturday guys! 20200320_215116.jpg 20200320_215116.jpg
