Thanks Evan. I know he's older and has some health issues so I pray that this virus does not attack him.

I've been using the shavette to trim the back of my neck. Any time I try to use a mirror to see what I'm doing I inevitably cut myself. Been ignoring the mirror and going by feel--much better results.

Very nice, Tim. I really like the scent of Cool as well. It used to be an awesome performer, but over time I feel the performance has altered for me.

Charlie, I couldn't have said it any better. My straight and shavette shaves last longer than my safety shaves because I get closer shaves. I believe the reason is because you are limited with the angle of attack with a safety while you are more flexible with open blade razors. I won't deny that there is a manly coolness to using an open blade, but I chose to shave with them because it was a challenge to acquire a skill that 99% of men do not want to do. It's a lost art. Sometimes shaving with a 100 yr old straight razor is just awesome because I am a small part of its long history.

Well, I gave my explanation why I prefer straights/shavettes over safeties. Yes, you can get BBS with both types of razors, but there is short term BBS and long term BBS. Now, this might only apply to me, but my times between shaves with a safety is much shorter than with an open blade.

Thanks Tim! It's my favorite straight, but I only have a few.

I've been 100% impressed with how well my kids are handling this whole situation, but I only have a few of those too.

yes sir,i agree..a properly supported de blade will deliver optimal bbs shaves.de blade holders control/determine the angle and exposure of themselves..ones technique with said razor delivers the results.no blade guard is the ultimate ..and a thin cap that allows the closest angle..

Nor can I get my wife to switch over--she prefers the more "traditional" way of shaving. I almost passed out when she said that, and was going to make some salient remarks, but she must have read the look in my eye, because she followed up with, "You know what I mean!"

Because I read the look in her eye, I kept my salient remarks to myself--discretion and valor and all that :happy102:

My daughter is still shaving with the Gillette you sent over with the SS... but she prefers the canned gel--I have failed her as a father :(:happy102:

you are getting a better angle with the blade that many de razors can't give ? de razors are about beard reduction where an open blade theoretically can cut at the base of the hair first pass.?.there are de razors that have negative/neutral blade exposure..these would be considered mild..most gillette fall into the neutral category..positive exposure de razors like the r41 and others are deemed aggressive..but still don't allow angles like a shavette /straight.the limit on angle is determined by the holder.the spine on a straight for example is a cap.ride the spine or cap on set down..

    Thanks, Gary!

I won't argue about the results for me. Nor will I argue about the increased focus--I've enjoyed not being on auto pilot for my shaves.

As far as the manly goes, there we have a difference of opinion--it's hard for me to feel manly using anything that has the suffix '-ette' in it ;):happy102:
