  1. Awesome shave, photo, and report, Jason! The best part about this set up and report is everything! I am fairly unfamiliar with the Goodwill, but it sounds like a wonderful shaver; the brush is phenomenal; and, of course, TdH is a favorite scent profile of mine. What's not to like? :D
  2. I am unfamiliar with the Streamline--following with interest :)

  3. so I got that vintage old spice gift set in the mail today. I have to say that the shulton deodorant smells exactly like the modern P&G version. this is the P&G version i am taking about. cannot tell a difference.the one time Procter and gamble did it right. [IMG]
  4. Thanks for the update, Chris--it's good to hear from you. Alabama sounds pretty much like everywhere else: crazy and uncertain. Press on and be safe, sir! :)
  5. Shaving each day for me is paramount to feeling and looking as good as I can especially in these rough days.

This is when I got them in the Proraso. Not sure if the soap was a bit wet when I covered it or it was just getting old .

This is with everything mashed into the center of the tub. If you zoom in you can see the crystals shining throughout the whole soap.

    That's awesome
  8. Those are the menthol crystals and they really don't affect the soap's performance. The reason that I know this is because I have the uber mentholated Cryogen soap and its menthol crystals are much bigger than those in your Proraso. The Cryogen soap's menthol crystals are supposed to be large.
  9. I have had crystals in a soap that was getting old but it was a soap without menthol. Like Joe said it could be menthol crystals.

  10. OK you guys....I'm going to try going by the wet shave instructions on the back of my "10% discount on next purchase" The Soap Exchange sent with my Lumberjack. Most of it is pretty routine-a teaspoon of hot water into the soap, but here's where it gets interesting, based on what I've been reading about your shaves....they want me to soak the "badger or boar brush"(I just have synthies)in hot water from the tap for 5-count em 5-minutes, then swirl into the soap for 1 minute. From my readings it appears most of you swirl the soap for 20, 25, 30 seconds. Then they say "press down hard on the soap"...whereas I recently have seen instructions that say "just use the tips of the brush". I figure I'm fine with the tsp. of hot water onto the soap, but I haven't been close to the 5 minutes of soaking that they ask for. As for the loading the soap, I could be ok with the one minute-I;ve been at 40-45 seconds due to the fact that I load slower than normal.

Comments? (for instance, using a synthie should all this timing be any different than badger/boar?)
  11. Awesome, Joe! I've just been using a salsa bowl lately. I've found that if the agitators are too protuberancey, the lather gets too foamy--looks like you hit the sweet spot with the agitators: just enough to work things without them fluffing out. Nice find, sir!
  12. Hello everyone!
    Early shave.
    Late report.
I'm using my Cooper Monobuilt loaded with a new Feather blade. I picked up a stick of Cremo shave stick, Original.
Cremo was the first real slick shaving cream I used, mostly because it was locally available. The stick scent seems to be stronger than the cream I have.
It has a citrus leaning to orange scent, I used my Stirling Orange Chill to complement it.
I used a brush to apply it and did the normal face lathering.
Trying to load my synthetic brush was doable, but not as I would like.
I found that dipping the stick in the water then loading the brush worked good, after your brush was wet.
Lathering the face did work better than some soaps I've used.
The lather stays around for long enough to finish the pass.
I have hard water so the fact I got it to lather was kinda surprising.
I finished my shaving this morning, both head and face, 2 passes each, no issues.
It's slick enough for a good head shave too.

I probably won't buy another stick again after I use this one.
But, if I need some shaving soap in a pinch.
I would not hesitate to grab a stick and use it.

    All
    ENJOY!

  13. I've said it before, but it bears repeating--that's an amazingly gorgeous brush handle. Design, finish, and everything... awesome. Enjoy, sir!

And congrats on your Russian surprise soap--seems like the Ruskies have been making a bit of an appearance this last week or so :D
  14. Great report and shave Terry.

  15. I always recommend synthetic brushes for newbies because it is easier to lather a soap than a natural hair brush. In my experience, a synthetic brush lathers faster.
  16. Very nice shave sir!

  18. Thanks Tim! Who would think that I can get a nice lather with bowls that are 18 cts a piece. Now, I have them stacked so it feels firm, but eventually I will use only one and see how that goes as well.

  20. My experience with synthetics has been 'dunk it and done'. They are almost instantaneously wetted, and don't really need to soak. I also prefer to just use the tips and load a bit longer than to really mash the soap with the brush. If there's a brush that can take a mashing, though, it's definitely a synthetic. I'd be interested to see what happens if you followed the directions to the letter, and then loaded it up the way you are used to loading. Sounds like it could be an interesting experiment...
